I have two great dogs, akeemi mad ando. I'm sending only one for pp training but not really sure who to send. The blood line would say ando but I think akeemi might be the better dog. What do you see in the line?

It really depends on the dog and not the pedigree at this point, IMO.

Ando  has the same Sire as my Ersa:) just a side note!!!! I agree with Slamdunc. It helps that a dog can call upon it's Ancestors, but the call will only take it so far. The rest depends on the dogShades Smile

Neither dog is fully mature yet, mentally or physically; I agree with Slamdunc, pedigree be damned--you train the dog, not the papers. Are you working with anyone locally who is able to evaluate which dog is able to handle pressure and conflict better at this point in their development [or if either one is even ready for it at all yet]?  If you don't have anyone knowledgeable enough to help you make that determination before you have to pick your candidate, then consider which of the two dogs copes with frustration best--which one perseveres longer to get what they're seeking?  Which one best sustains focus despite distractions?

I trust you've thoroughly vetted the person you'll be sending the dog to for this training, but given the recent situation with another PDB member's dog coming up missing when sent off for boarding & training, I hope you'll forgive my slight paranoia in urging you to check, recheck, and then recheck a third time to make sure your dog will be safe, properly cared for and most importantly returned to you in nothing less than the condition and health he or she is in presently.

Depends on the dog. I mean, neither are fully mature, but they're old enough to see potential for who would be the better candidate. Doesn't have anything to do with the pedigrees. Both pedigrees are extremely nice, but it depends on the dog itself. I'm actually writing a speech on pp dogs, and how to pick them out and train them, but one statement in my speech is about how dogs can have fabulous pedigrees, but may not have the personal abilities (physical or mental) to handle the stress of pp. The pedigrees give an idea of who the dog can be, the dog itself will tell you who it really is. Go with who you think would be the better candidate, don't rest on the pedigrees, but on the personal abilities of the dogs themselves. Just my opinion :)

And I FULLY agree with hexe with who you train with. Do your homework time and time again. There keeps popping up things on here with incidents of sending dogs off for training and them being bred, or sold, or stolen, or hurt or worse. Make 100% sure about who you send the dog to.

Ando stays 100% close to his people, akeemi is always ready to go. She  is sport on ball and agility. Ando has a low pray drive but a strong pack drive. This is what I see in both dogs.

nice dogs. if you already have a trainer you trust, that's probably the best source for evaluation. If you haven't done h/e yet, that could also be a factor as I'm sure you will have a chunk of change invested in training. they are a little young yet. I would want them to be mentally mature before sending off.

Take them both to the trainer and ask him for his recommendation.

It seems like Akeemi may be more independent and have better drive based on your statement.  If Ando is low prey and "100% close to his people" he may wind up with separation anxiety and need a long time to settle in.  I would go with the dog that can handle the stress of being out of it's element and have the drive to want to work and overcome that stress.  Low prey and strong pack drive may not be the best combination of traits to send away for training.
