Slightly embarrasing question regarding female anatomy - Page 1

Probably Christmas Eve is not the best time to ask a question like this....& it's no crisis or big deal.....but one of my female pups is rather uniquely constructed. Her vulva is very low set, almost where a males testicles would be. Is this a normal variation? We have no plans to breed her, & she has no urinary problems, & in fact my husband & I just noticed how different she is tonight when she was side by side with the other female pup her age (9 months). She has a much steeper croup than the other pup, could this have something to do with it? She is happy, healthy, & a little devil, so we are just curious, & I'm sure we'll get some interesting responces!  Thanks, & Merry Christmas! jackie harris

I think you may be right, her dam gets very swollen, but the general position stays the same; & her sister has the same  anatomy as her mom. But this is something we have not noticed before, so I would not be surprised if this were related to her coming into her 1st heat cycle. Any other opinions? My husband is calling her his little 'morphodite'! LOL! (My husband again....go figure!) jh 

I agree with Rik,  what for the swelling, and no asking is not a problem, and is a sign of a good owner. Sounds like she is growing into her body and as with all things with these dogs,they grow into it. Just keep her away from the bad boys ,and have a happy christmas,dont worry DEE

Actually, she is not swollen as yet, but may be just barely starting....yes, & we do have a bad boy....but he is not allowed access.....he has been showing some interest over the last few days, usually he trots right past her crate like, 'dumb puppies, not worth my attention'; but yesterday, he trotted by, then stopped, turned around, & went back to sniff at her crate with his eyes all bugged out....he was immediately redirected back to going out to do a little OB in the snow, & he caught so many snowballs he was too pooped to care on his way in....but it's all adding up.....lol! jh

The turn around is the give away.  Its just she is not mature yet.,and will grow alot , but the male will show you, as he will not leave so easy as she gets more into the heat. 9 to12 mths is normal for first heat and she doesnt know, so she may be holding her tail end muscles down ,its a female thing .  ha   DEE

Yup. I had a female who was due to whelp pups in a few days, and she swelled on either side of her vulva much like she had 2 small testicles. I was worried and called the vet, but they assured me it's just something that sometimes happens. Sure enough, labor came, and all went just fine. I'd never seen a female swell and 'bounce' down there like that before. It's just probably funny horomones.
