Does any GS breeder guarantee against over cowhocked?  And what about front

paws being angled outward too much.

by Sam1427 on 03 December 2008 - 02:12

Never heard of it.  A lot of puppies are cowhocked and east-west, but grow out of it. Some don't. No breeder in his or her right mind would make a guarantee about either.

by DaWolf on 03 December 2008 - 02:12

ok.  would you breed such?

by Sam1427 on 03 December 2008 - 02:12

Is this a hypothetical question? Or is there an agenda here, such as you bought a puppy that didn't grow out of it.

by DaWolf on 03 December 2008 - 02:12

Yes, I bought a puppy that is almost 2 years old now and did not grow out of it.  Breeder even said this dog

would be the best dog I have ever had.  lol.

If your dog is almost 2 then I would not hold my breath that the dog will "grow out of it".

Breeders say all kinds of things to make a sale, or to appease a miffed customer.  Sorry to hear that this happened to you.  I've never heard of a breeder offering such a guarantee like that.  If I were a breeder I wouldn't offer that, but then I wouldn't breed an animal like that either.  Sorry 'bout your luck but I don't think you can do anything to "fix" this.

True.  I was just curious.

Did you buy the dog specifically to show and you can't find a handler who can train the faults out or hide the faults? Is this a working dog or a pet you'd hoped to put a performance title on? Do you like the dog and want to keep him?  (I hope so.) You need to look at your puppy contract although the dog may be too old for that to matter. It may be a case of enjoy your dog and live and learn. Buying a puppy is a gamble, since no one can tell exactly what that pup will be like as an adult. If you were interested in showing, my advice would be to go to a better breeder and buy a young adult that already has points, although that will be expensive (that's for AKC showing.)  If you wanted to go through the German type system and get a BH, Sch1 and Koer report, you'd still have to go to a better breeder most likely and get a dog from someone who can advise you on a trainer or club.  Don't think less of the  dog you have now because he didn't grow up to be perfect. You can still enjoy him and put obedience titles or rally or whatever titles on him. Just study and learn and resolve to do better next time.

Yes, that is all I can do........live and learn.  He is German Showline.  I did not choose him.  Breeder did.  I got him as a family companion but even that he is not.  Way too hard headed.  His ped is really nice and all but I guess he just happened to not be.  Ped is full of champions like, Rapi Supra, Neptune Von Badboll, Dux della Valcuvia and many more but I guess he just got the short end of the stick.

Well, thank you all for the information and all but, I am gonna hit the sack.
