Sounds like there is something wrong with the puppies that they are dead at birth or dropping dead afterwards, without being eaten.  I don't know that I could fault a dog behaviorally for disposing of damaged/defective pups.  But it doesn't sound like she can have healthy pups whatever the reason :o(  I'd be interested in hearing on update on the remaining four.

NNolen28,

You started this damned post, are you planning on coming back to it?

Or was this just BS from the get go?

What has transpired since you first posted?

I'd like to know.  And you could have answered a couple of my question's.

Brent.

Nature can be cruel and inexplicable.

It is not normal for a healthy, well fed dog that has never had to forage for food to eat pups. There is something lacking in the dog.  It may be a lack of instinct, it may be mental or physical issues. Short of  some sort of gross vitamin or hormone deficiency no one including a Vet. can say for sure the cause.

There is a picture on the database right now of a female nursing a litter so large that I'm not sure of the count. Looks like 13 to me. She looks perfectly content. There is no way she knows the difference between 13 and 16. She doesn't care. Her meals are catered, her environment is controlled.

I would never breed a bitch like this the second time.

Rik
