Every year following the WUSV IPO World Championships the big officials of the WUSV and Judges get together for a debrief to consider the future of the sport and reflect on the quality of the competition.   This year, for the first time ever, "England" (really we should be referred to as "Great Britain" but I don't think the continentals really pay much attention such details) and Ireland were the only two countries in the whole report who were mentioned - and given high praise!   I quote the Protection Judge, Mr Josef Vonarburg - "Particularly striking is the fact that England had been very strongly represented and achieved excellent performances, although English dogs are normally only rarely represented."   "As regards the very good works, the same is also true for Ireland. He especially emphasises this nation as it did not have many chances in the past to show its dogs."   You have to trawl through a long and very dry body of text to get to it but if you want to read it in the original document you can download it here.   It doesn't sound like much, but to be singled out like that at a meeting of internationally respected officials must mean we made a massive impression.     Like I said, no other country is mentioned in the whole report.  If thats not excellent news for British and Irish Dog Sport, I don't know what is!

Great news!  Now, when will Great Britain and/or Ireland HOST the WUSV...so we Yanks can travel abroad  to see the Championship where we "kinda" speak the language? Regular Smile

I'd love to host the WUSV WM but there are only something like 300 members and 23 clubs Nationally.  There are more registered SV Judges in Germany than there are IPO trainers in the whole of UK!  At the moment we simply don't have the numbers or the infrastructure to provide a suitable championship.

I'd like to see that change in the future, though.  We just hosted our biggest ever National Championships but that was tiny in comparison.  Less than 20 entrants and a couple of hundred spectators, most of which came over from the show side as we hosted a regional show event at the same venue.

Its scary how small the sport is over here.  I say to people who don't know anything about Dog Sport that Britain getting a dog in the Top 10 at the World Championships is like the Jamaican Bob Sleigh Team winning at the Winter Olympics!

That is about as succinct and clear an analogy as one could make! Regular Smile         But....   The Brits just pulled off the Olympics.  The folks that withstood the Blitz can do just about anything! Regular Smile

I don't know about the Brits in general being able to do anything, but I know my dad can do pretty much anything once he decides he wants to do it!  It verges on chronic stubbornness...

The species would not have advanced without stubborn people! Regular Smile
