GSDtravels

One of my terriers was missing for 2 days about 5 years ago, dug under the fence.  I called every animal shelter, animal hospital, police station.  Put up fliers with his picture, searched neighborhoods, woods, trails, no luck.  On the second day, at almost midnight, he came back on his own.  Stinky, filthy, tired, hungry, but fine!  Hope springs eternal and I am hoping he returns safe.  Call everyone you can think of and keep on looking.  Wishing you the best, let us know!

So sorry - I have lost two dogs.  My first dog, Glory, came up missing several times.  It was a neighbor that kept taking her for her own.  I would find my dog in her back yard each time she came up missing..

The second, a Chihuahua, taken from my front porch.  I just left for one second - never returned - I hope you have luck finding your dog...  I don't wish loosing a loved one on anyone.  I hope you find your dog....

Thanks you guys, i just got home from looking, we live in a small town. I've talked to dozens of people, groceries stores, vets, newspaper, pound, police station. the kids just got off  the bus, i told the driver. Thanks for that idea, i didnt think of that. Im going to talk to the mail lady in the morning. That too is a great idea. I must have seen a dozen diffrent stray looking dogs, same ones all over town, over and over. And my dog is no where to be found. I think some one got him. Ive put up signs and offererd a reward, i hope he comes home. If i ever see him again, he is never going to stay out side again. He has alway been a indoor out door. But lately, since i had my daughter a year ago, and we bought a new house, he has mostly been an out side dog.  I feel so bad, there was a storm last night and he must have been scared, because he jump the fence. I know he did, because his hair was on the fence. He is 5 and has never jumped the fence, or ran away from home. This is all my falt, Its also because i bred him, like an idiot, and now he knows what thats hall about and probly out breeding the town. I hope i get him back. I promise i will fix him and he will live in the house.

Oh my, I so  know how you feel.  Are there any woods close by?  Perhaps he's chasing small animals.  Don't give up, I've heard storys of dogs making their way home from far, far away.  I doubt he's gone too terribly far but you never know.  Just make sure the police are kept informed and look anywhere you can think of.  Do you walk him or hike with him in a particular area?  If so, head there, he may go where things are somewhat familiar.  I hope so bad we have a happy ending by tonight.  Best of luck in your search.  Don't be too hard on yourself, hindsight is 20/20 as they say.

Poor thing, you're a wreck! And your poor boy will probably all of a sudden realize, "Oops! Where am I?" Dogs do have a pretty good sense of direction, my son's GSD mix would run off, I think he liked to be chased, but he would always wind up back on the front porch; dirty, stinky, full of stickers & thorns--but home. All of the suggestions are good ones...is he chipped? If so, call the microchip company & report him missing, if you can't find the microchip info the implanting vet should have it on file. Put food out on the porch or in the yard, something he can smell to intice him, & make sure he can get back inside the fence in case he's tired & sore. Good luck! jackie harris

My stomach rolled when I read your post...  Duke was missing a total of 5 weeks last winter (Feb/Mar 2008) and the tears shed in that time seemed endless.  Do everything that was suggested... make a LIST of things to do so you can go back over it every few days.   AND DON'T GIVE UP!!

Call your local Vets
Call your local Radio stations
Put add in the paper ASAP
Put up adds on trees/ bulletin boards,
Drive the side roads in a 5 mile radius of your place
Talk to KIDS!! They see a lot.
Contact any/all shelters rescues in the area
Contact the town road crews in case he was hit by a car
If you get reports of him being sighted take used blankets or a jacket of yours and leave it on the ground there. We left quilts that the other dogs had slept on in a shed where Duke had been sighted.

DON'T GIVE UP...  and try to go every single day on your circut.

Duke is now back home, curled up next to my desk thanks to folks keeping a look out for him, and co-ordinating with a rescue near there to field phone calls if I was absent. Eventually it got Duke and I at the same place and time. Duke had run with a dog pack for a time before he was trapped and came to me VIA a local shelter origionally... when he was lost following a truck crash on black ice he paniced and reverted to that state. and wouldn't come to anyone except me.

Good luck... hope your search comes to a good result
