I've looked every where. No ones called, its been five hours. I hate this, i cant stop crying,  Im a complete mess, everyone thinks im stupid, because he is "just a dog", but I love that dog, I cant imagine what might of happened to him. Im afraid he is hurt.

I'm so sorry.  GET OUT THERE.  He's probably not far.  Call your local humane society to report him; people call in all the time and report that they see a strange dog running around so if you get your info to them you may get a call.  Also - make sure you tell your mailman and any neighborhood children: the mailman is everywhere and may either see him or will recall someone telling him "hey, I saw a big dog running around."  And kids go everywhere and see things and also overhear things - "somebody said they found a dog...."  - that kind of stuff.  Get the word out ASAP - mailman, kids, UPS & Fed Ex drivers, veterinary offices.  Hand out your phone # on a slip of paper so they can call you if they see anything.

GOOD LUCK.

I am so sorry.  I have had this experience.  My male was missing for 23 hours.
Contact animal control and let them know you have a missing dog.
Check with the neighbors.  Sometimes a neighbor has seen a "dog that looked like yours," but assumed it wasn't your dog.  It might help give some idea of where to look.

Is the dog tattooed and micro-chipped.  DO NOT rely on the shelter to call, if he is picked up.  My local shelter scans the dogs, but the ___don't bother to contact anyone with the information they get from the scan.

Contact Petfinders.com.

I found my dog because animal control called me at 8 pm about a report of a gsd and gave me the intersection where a sighting was made.  This was beyond the area that I had been looking-about 4 miles from home.  Sure enough, I found him a block from that intersection.

I know of a man who lost a dobie last summer who went to some extraordinary lengths.  I don't know if he found the dog or not. I will pm you with the info.

5 hours is not that long .It seems like an eternity to you but to a dog it's just fun and game time still . Try calling the delivery folk like post men school bus  drivers and kids . Meter readers all those kinds of people let them know your dog is missing . Show them a picture of your dog . call all neihboring dog control officers and all county dog ponds not just your local one  Call call call .Call all local vets let them know .Then relax for a bit with a cup of tea . Good luck .In 5 hours a dog can be almost 15 miles or more away as the crow flys. In any direction . He could have been picked up and driven home with a caring animal lover and be listed in a county not the one you live in . so call everyone in your area that has anything to do with stray and lost dogs

have you called local shelters, post on craig's list and/or other local online boards like neighborhood email lists?  if you walk him maybe follow your route and keep going circling out from your house posting fliers as you go.

it suck we had 2 of ours take off during a rainstorm last week luckily we found them pretty quickly but it's sure scary!  i feel very sorry for you what you are going through sucks i also feel sorry for the people telling you he's "just a dog" because they are missing out on what a great relationship one can have with a dog.

best of luck, i hope he finds his way home asap and please post updates,
susan

btw do they have gps tracking devises for dog collars?

 I'm so sorry!

Yes, keep looking.  He could still be ok, maybe he just found a girlfriend, so don't lose hope!  But time is of the essence.  Where do you live - is there wildlife?  Hunters?  Or neighbors?  Busy streets?  Chemicals from lawn care, antifreeze, etc?  Could someone have snatched him?  Or picked him up thinking he was lost?

What about calling the police, and asking if there have been any incidents of dog thefts?

Get a good picture of your dog, and add all the relevant information, such as LOST DOG, and your contact info. Then make multiple copies, and get out there and start posting them!

I remember reading about a company that specialized in finding lost dogs, and that was their first suggestion to owners who were missing a pet.

Do walk around, and search the neighborhoods. My ex from the past and I had a yellow lab pup that went missing. We were distraught and began to comb the neighborhoods nearby. We kept hearing a dog barking and followed it, where we found our dog tied to a tree! We never found out if this was a helpful act or not. We were just relieved and untied him and took him home.

I pray you find your dog soon!

Just curious,

YES!  There are gps collars for dogs.  I cannot recall the name right now, but they are sold at Cabela's, among other places.  They were initially marketed for dogs, but are now also being marketed for kids and individuals with memory problems, so they can be located.  The collar is coupled with a satellite and you can locate the dog from your computer.  It may also be possible to locate with a cell phone, not sure about that.

Been there done that,
Can't do anything about the worrying.... no words would help.
But they do wander and they do come home.
I've driven all over looking for a dog only to return home and find her here tired and content from her romp out in the world.
Think positive and when he does come home there should be a punishment, nothing severe but he should know he's done something wrong.

They are as bad as kids when it comes to worrying us sometimes.

I understand.
