++catch up later - and when he does, the rest of the pack will beat the living crap out of that hound the second he returns++

Interesting.. yes our dogs will scold anyone that crosses a border without permission.. Have also seen coyotes bring a whole pack out when a young bitch was caught meandering off her territory with a young male from another pack!.... When she she kept defying them and started a big tadoo the other pack came from afar and it was a BIG deal. I just sat and watched with the binoculors... the dogs were all put up of course or they would have wanted to chase them off and there were far too many. Was so interesting.

Good luck!

hoping there has been an update

"I was right, but only found him when one night about 3 am I went there. It was so quiet that when I screamed his named it echoed and carried. He heard it, and several minutes later came tearing around from behind several houses. Skinny, matted and oh so happy to see me."

That IS a great idea.   I love to imagine the joy of your lost dog, in the quiet of 3am, suddenly hearing YOUR voice and RUNNING to you.  Great story.

Best wishes for finding your missing dog.  My heart goes out to you.  We lost a trio of dogs many years ago, just vanished from the yard.  It was the better part of a month before we were able to get a lead on where they'd gone, and we finally did find two of them.  The third was never seen again, and it was heart-rending, since this was in an extremely rural area and the two we did find were in bad shape when we found them.

Keep trying, don't give up.

Crys

One other suggestion...Don't just place ads in the paper for lost dogs...Also check all regional papers under "Found".
