Totally agree Mackenzie, and would like to see this kept to the forefront - but I spoke to a well known and knowledgable and pro-active exhibitor only a few days ago and asked why no contribution.   The reason is very valid.  One gets on to this dtabase and gets really bad and negative people coming forward.   Think I have just been lucky (or no-one is jealous of me and mine !!)  I`ve had my flack in the past, and I know how badly it affected me then - so can understand those sentiments.   Nevertheless - progress is being made, and I am awaiting the end of the ballot on Davids site, and then shall contact the gentleman that I mentioned earlier, and take advice from him as to where we go next to unite and see how it goes.
If we moved the Kennel Club on this 100%  -  it would be tremendous
if we moved the Kennel Club towards it        -  it would be fantastic
if we got part pleased i.e. GSD name  only  -  it would satisfy our needs for now
if we got no-where at all                                      -

by Penny on 05 March 2009 - 11:03

Well  -  getting no-where at all obviously gave me wobly fingers, and I pressed the wrong key !

What I was going to say was if we get no where at all, then we have to take more drastic actions to secure the future of the German Shepherd if we care about it at all, and I sincerely hope we dont have to think of more drastic action.  I am stillopping regarding the changing of the standard no matter how small without the consulation with the SV WUSV - as some-one else sai, how would the K.C. view europe changing the standard of the Staffie.

On a different note - Good Luck to everyone entering Crufts, be vigilant, its sad, but our dogs will be at risk from nutters and I still havent got a lift for Brian Wootton so if anyone out there has any suggestions to help, I`d be grateful.

Cheeers and thanks for raising it again Mackenzie

Make no mistake, this debate and the ballot has and is making a difference. Many influential people have recognised the genuine concerns and frustrations that have been aired in this debate. Everyone reading this should be very aware that this debate has and is being carried on "offsite", in every GSD club, in emails, telephone conversations, GSD magazines, breed notes, and regional notes etc.

The policy for dropping the name "Alsation" has been adopted by the GSD Partnership. The need for the Kennel Club to adopt the SV/FCI GSD Breed Standard in FULL has been recognised, and is being discussed in the "corridors of power". Make no mistake, the public debate and the ballot of Affix holders who breed GSD, has and is creating awareness throughout our breed that some very important issues need to be addressed, debated and changes made.

Our GSD breed is starting to put its house in order, of that I have no doubt. No individual will get everything they would wish for, our breed will only thrive through consensus, tolerence and open discussion. I see clear signs that this is happening in 2009.

I now sincerely hope the GSD breed Council can "up" their game, and achieve a much higher level of constructive debate and carefully considered and worded policies for the progress of our breed. They need to create a "GSD Think Tank" of those people in our breed with the knowledge, experience and qualities that can contribute to the creation of potentially progressive policies that could then be debated at the full Breed Council meetings, and throughout our breed. Those policies adopted, amended if and where appropriate, could then be pursued with the broad collective support throughout our breed. Our leaders would then be representing our views in a much more meaningful and democratic manner.

It is interesting to note that since my post this morning the number of viewings has increased by 63 in such a short time.  I hope that some new contributors will come from this group.

Very good posts from David Payne and MO, so come on everyone, no one or two people can carry the water for everyone.

I sincerely hope that the Breed Council et al will make more public statements to demonstrate that as a breed we are doing all that we can to address our situation and, raise public awareness to the struggle that we have undertaken.  For the future of the breed we must remember that there is a lot of people out there that may want to join us in our journey with the breed.  We must put them in the best position to start on the right foot.  We owe it to the German Shepherd Dog who has given us so much.  It is now time for all of us to put aside our personal differences and say "what can we do for the German Shepherd Dog".

NO Furry Bananas!

Well done Panzerhund.   Whether people agree with you or not, you have contributed and that is what we want.

Unfortunately, one contribitor to my first post today "cherry picked" one part of the post only for a response for a smart  answer.  Although I replied I have seen no response from the contributor.   I hope that one will be forthcoming by the end of the day

regards

Mackenzie

panzerhund, it is many years since I have seen a "banana back" - and before that I saw very few. When I write this I want you and others to fully understand that I mean GSD in their in the natural stance on a loose lead or free off lead. NOT posed wrongly with their backs hunched and bent and their body shortened., ALL the fault of the handler NOT the dog. It is a pity so many are fooled regularly and blame the dog. Also many kennels, GSD breeders and owners have, what we quaintly call, "middle of the road" type.

What this normally means is: "I cannot breed or buy a top class GSD, and mine is a bit on the "ordinary side" BUT I really go for the "middle of the road type", its more correct, and less exaggerated!".

A long answer which simply means
"I cannot breed or own a TOP class GSD Champion or near champion or regular Championship Show winners."

When children display negative behaviour - it is said ignore them, and when they dont get a reaction, they will stop being negative.

I wanted to congratulate panzerhund on arriving to the board with valid comments, but when he ended it with the childish negativity - I chose to ignore the behaviour.   Mol

Hello MacKenzie,

I have no intention of trying to persuade anyone to come to this board? Why would I want to subject them to possible ridicule from the multitude of anonymous morons who frequent it? Not everyone is capapble of letting such snide , underhand comments be like water to a ducks back.

In your first post you said "If they cannot, or, are unwilling to contribute openly.........then ask yourselves WHO WILL "
the most poignant word you used here being 'Openly' (like you , you mean?) and who do you mean when you say "We must get more contibutions from the more prominent members of the breed,"  how do you know some of these are not lurking behind anonymous smart arse comments?

David and Mo have said it , things are moving, we have got people talking, I wrote an article for Davids website, I spoke to prominent people in our breed who DO CARE but who DO NOT have access to the internet, I was instructed by them to register a vote on their behalf.

When Mo asked for my help in putting something important together, I willingly jumped to it and was happy to help her. Whatever and Whenever I can do anything to help this beloved breed I DO, and You MacKenzie, what is it you have done exactly?

Initially we said we would wait until after Crufts when hopefully a Paper Ballott will have gone round to gather names of those who do not have internet access. Then at the end of March their is a proposal on the BC Agenda. What is it you are actually asking us to do meantime Mackenzie.

If anyone was being a Smart Arse here it was you, I do not appreciate friends having to contact me by telephone to ask me to look at the board because you were apparently summoning me with your Smart Arse comment. I do not spend 24x7 on this board, I have other more important things to do than check this every couple of hours in case you want a reply.

Regards
Sue B
