How much do you guys feed your dogs (maybe ones around 50-60 lbs?).  In a way I wouldn't think I'm feeding Buck (4 years old, 52 lbs) enough food, but by the way he acts 1 and 1/2 cups of food a day almost seems too much for him.  He typically only seems hungry late afternoon (even if we walk), and might eat a cup at the most at one time.  It's gotten where I just feed him at most 1 and 1/2 cups of food total per day.  Sometimes he may only eat a cup total.  Is that normal for a dog of his weight? We recently switched to 4Health grain free, white fish.  It seems he eats even less on it, but his weight is good, still somewhat lean.  Anyway just curious what all do you guys feed/weight of your dogs/how much are they eating?

I have a bitch around 63 lbs that i feed, 3 cups once a day, I wet food with HOT water, if she dont eat when its down she will miss feeding time the next day i will wait maybe and hr or 2 later than usual feeding time. We feed taste of the wild Pacific Stream. 4 health is a good food, my dogs did great on it. i just have fewer dogs now so i switched to The Wild.

My 60lb female eats 1.5 C day, any more and she puts weight on fast. My other girl is 65lbs and eats 2.5 C. The
active guys eat a ton more... 60lbs eats 5C, 73lbs eats 4 cups, 90lbs eats 4 C and 65lbs eats 4 C... this is when I
feed straight kibble. I think they get more out of raw... just haven't had the energy to re-up my freezer.

Depends on the dog and the food. I have a spayed female that is about 60 lbs that I have to feed less because her metabolism slowed down after she was spayed. She eats a nice quality food, about 1 cup twice daily. But if she works that day I add a little more. My younger dog can't keep weight on. She's extremely active, she's on a different food than my spayed female that is formulated for higher energy working dogs, and she's intact, about 60 lbs, and she eats about 1.5-2 cups twice a day, maybe more if she's working that day. Depends on the dog and the food. But I do always wet mine, and they have 10 minutes to eat or they wait until the next meal.

I have a 65 lb female American Bulldog intact and she eats 2 cups of Taste of the Wild. 1 Cup am 1 cup pm. With some Missing link and on ocassion a touch of canned food.
My male only ate 3 cups of TOTW per say in two feedings. And most of my other females have maintained on two cups a day also. My dogs are never fat, they stay well muscled into their senior years. And most have live to either 10 or mid teens. I've been feeding TOTW for about 3 years and before that i was feeding Chicken Soup. Both food did fine with my dogs.

Forget about the amounts printed on the dog food bags.
There is no difference between dogs and humans - some need a lot of food and will always stay slim, others only need to take a look and become fat.
Watch your dog and decide.

My very active spayed female eats 5 to 6 cups of soaked kibble per day plus 3/4 of a chicken canned food at dinner. Vet says she is perfect, not too fat not too skinny. If I went by the dog food bag she would be skin and bones.

I was so glad to read this post today. I have a 10 month old intact male Belgian Mal. He weighs about 70 lbs. He eats approx. 2 cups of Blue Buffalo Wilderness for puppies every day and I mix in boiled chicken or ground beef. He is very picky and won't eat straight kibble no matter how many days I try feeding him just that. Glad to hear the back of the bag can be off for feeding instructions.  He doesn't look skinny and is very filled out.

Yikes. My mal is almost 7 months and she's still only 34lbs yet she scarfs down 4 cups of food per day (plus treats). I started upping her kibble from 3 cups to 4 because she was looking ghastly thin and I could start to see her rib bones.

Thanks for the responses everyone.  Eldee, how much does your dog weight/how old is she? That seems like a lot of food, but also what food are you feeding?

I ended up (since I put my first post) doing one meal the 22nd/23rd for Buck (and Max as well) of 1 cup..... And then yesterday and today I gave them both two meals total equaling maybe 1 and 1/4th cup total of food. As in Buck's two meals = 1 and 1/4th cup of food, same for Max. I also mixed it half/half, half 4Health grain free/half TOTW Wild Boar. They both ate their food pretty quickly, but I doubt they would have eaten much more. I know Buck will keep his weight on that amount of food, Max probably will too as he was starting to get fat on 2 cups, and even a cup and 1/2 for that matter. If Max does start to lose a little, I'll up it just a hair.

Dragronfry, which TOTW are you feeding your guys?
