Here is one story of losing faith, similar to mine, but I wasn't quite that deep of a thinker at that young age.  My questions never stopped though and I came to the same conclusion for simpler reasons.  "Pagan babies" got me there in second grade.  We had to take collections for Pagan babies that the Missionaries were saving.  It was a contest and those who collected the most got a prize.  I had a nagging questions that could not be answered properly and that's when the jig was up for me.  The question?  What happens to the the ones that the missionaries can't or don't reach?  Discomfort in attempting to answer, both the teacher and my parents, but the answer ended up being that they'd never make it to heaven.  This, to me was the ultimate injustice and it went downhill from there rather quickly.  It just didn't make any sense and no god could possibly be that fallible and that cruel.  I never again went out to collect a cent for thos "pagan babies" and I wasn't disappointed in not collecting the prize, which was a glass statue of Mary.  Though I'm not a fanatic watcher, Judge Judy does iterate my favorite line:  "If it doesn't make sense, it isn't true!"  Reading the Bible toward the end of Elementary School cemented my Atheism, even though I didn't even know that word back then.

Interesting video if you have the time.  I'm sure it will be dismissed out of hand by some, but still something to make you stop and think.  Well, for those who want to think anyway.

Very interesting indeed;  and super, novel animation / presentation.

Supports vk4's charges that  yhwh is a vindictive, sadistic & unjust god, btw.

No.  I am sure many will choose not to watch, in case it calls for them to

think about their faith, and  query proselatizing it to others.

Mind you, for the video maker it was about being bullied into saying he

believed;  have never really experienced that aggresion about my atheism

(unless you regard Shtal and John as aggressive) - it bothers me more that

the arguments in favour of belief are so all-pervasive, more than nasty.  We

do not get any peace from what surrounds us, from sects to churches, from

marriage to funerals, from the abortion question to education issues.

Travels, I can see why you believe what you believe.  Catholicism is a cult in my opinion and has done irreparable harm to many peoples view of Jesus and Christianity.

As  for the contradictions the guy in the video pointed out, he like VK is taking everything out of context.

It boils down to two choices.  You accept Jesus or you don't.

Our calendars are based on His life and death.  Life is a miracle.  Man has a conscience, animals don't.  We are not animals.  You say there is no proof, but there is abundant proof of an amazing God.

Funny how you are so sure there isn't a God but start thread after thread trying to disprove something you are sure doesn't exist.

Enjoy this beautiful day, (that the Lord has made).

RS, all religions are cults and Catholicism is the least.  No matter how dismissive you want to be, they all follow the same Bible.  Fundamentalism is dangerous, no matter how you slice it and you, whether you believe it or not, are a prime example, completely brainwashed!  I find that sad because you have a naivety that shows your are a decent human being and it makes me sick the damage it has done to you.  Hopefully, some day you'll wake up and see the world and people as beautiful, instead of terrifying.  And yes, we are animals ----> apes, to be exact.

Oh, BTW, our calendar is not based on Christian mythology, other than BC and AD, which we really don't use in day to day calculating.  But the rest of it is based on the gods of Roman mythology, so what's your point?

Hund, I guarantee RS did not watch the video, she'd rather derail over sects and stay in her comfort zone.

Red, why do you assume the narrator is discussing a Catholic upbringing anyway ?

He is not specific.

by vk4gsd on 05 July 2015 - 20:07

RS travels did not start this thread to disprove god, how did you reach that conclusion??

the way to get people to lose faith is to get them to read the bible, all of it.

the bible is the sickest most disgusting horror story ever written, shame more xians don't read it past the few stories they were told about version 2 hippy Jesus god.

She's talking about me Hund, she knows my family is Roman Catholic and when that was revealed, it was her "Ah-hah" moment.  Oddly, I'm the only Atheist in the bunch... well, other than two of my nephews, one raised with the religion and the other, not so much.  My oldest sister is a practicing Catholic, my brother doesn't attend church, though he does "believe" and it's their sons who ended up being Atheists.  Time will tell with my youngest sister's kids, her son just graduated High School and her daugher is going to 10th grade.  That sister actually works for the Catholic Diocese, so she's more than practicing, she's in it up to her eyeballls.  Though there is an undercurrent of dismissiveness, we all have a good relationship with each other and it doesn't affect that at all.

My sister's Atheist son was the one that shocked me.  He's the quiet, obedient type and my sister kept his "secret" for quite some time.  That wasn't difficult since they lived in another state (NJ) for 15 years.  I didn't find out until after they'd move back.  I did find it quite amusing though, because my B-I-L always looked down his nose at me, so to speak, and it's fun watching him walk on egg shells around his son, who has since married and given them a grandson with another on the way.  He's totally obnoxious, dishonest and loud, constantly throwing out "God Bless" at anyone within ear shot.  I was on the phone with him a while back and when we were hanging up, he said "God Bless", to which I replied, "No thanks, I've got other plans."  :)  It's the same line I use when presumptive. arrogant people tell me to "Have a blessed day."  Of course I say it in a friendly tone with a huge smile on my face and the confused look on theirs is just priceless!

Anyway, here's a related article that I found quite interesting.  I've always wondered why some people are so easily convinced and others, like me, are never convinced and question everything.

There seems to be some science behind it, it's the skeptical brain, evidently.  Why doesn't everyone believe in God?: The skeptical brain may hold the answer

that hateful, hideous, ignorant clip is about the best reason to reject this moronic death cult, paraphrasing - no innocent child in Africa will go to hell for not hearing about Jesus because there are no innocent children anywhere in the world, god has given everyone the knowledge of god even the African baby in the middle of the jungle that has never heard of god had heard of god so they are going to hell.

what a POS religion, ruger you are a monster.

what did Jesus die for again?

stupid death cult of hate and ignorance = Christianity, babies burn in hell for eternity because they are born into sin and god has made them so they know he exists even in a remote village in the jungle that has never seen a Xian.

how pathetic and you sign it off with a smiley face, creepy sick shit.
