Oops . . . posted this on the main board (sorry)! Here's the post below . . .
I volunteer at a local dog shelter (Northern California). We have a dog that has been here for over 8 months and we are desperately trying to find her a home. If we don't find her a home very soon, we have to send her away to a "kill shelter" - and they'll only give her so much time before putting her down. She is the SWEETEST dog with people. I would foster/adopt her - but I live in a rental and our landlord does not allow dogs.
Here is her story . . . Cassie is a 3.5 year old black lab mix (maybe boxer, dane, something else). She was found in a backyard with a number of other dogs. She had a litter of 2 pups and had to learn to guard them fiercely. So, although she's fantastic with people - totally bombproof (even with kids) - she does show a "protective" nature when introduced to strange dogs. In working with her - I have found what she is displaying isn't necessarily aggression though. I think with the right person who can socialize her more - she'd be just fine. She barks at other dogs - but never puts her hackles up. It seems more fearful than aggressive.
She is extremely smart and well mannered. Very good on leash and does a beautiful "heal." She has her own facebook page "CrazyForCassie."

She is a beautiful dog. She needs to find a construction worker with a truck she can watch over. I'll be sending good vibes for that to happen, going your way. Best I can do, being East Coast.

Yeah, out in the hot sun.... I hope she gets a family with kids who want a happy dog to romp with. Too bad she's so far away. I get calls for a grown dog like that frequently. |

That was a mean thought, Joan. Time to let your bitterness go. We have plenty of shade trees annd my idea is the dog goes where master goes. I do know great people like that, with very happy lab type dogs. That is what she reminded me of. Absolutely adored and kept active. Not a bad dog life when the alternative is a needle. |

I just wanted to try to get the word out. You just never know. The power of the "word" is fantastic. I figure the more I put it out there to the universe, someone is bound to pop up that wants this gorgeous soul. I'm just devestated that this young, healthy, happy girl might have to see the needle - rather than find a forever home that will adore her as much as all us volunteers do. Thanks for at least the well wishes ;-) I know she can use all the wishful thinking possible right now!! |

I am just sick and tired of ALL these people who get dogs, only to throw them away.
