Oh, these tactics sound so familiar. I really have no problem with whatever people want to believe. But when they have to use deceit in order to justify it, but insist that it be taught to the general public as "truth", it's way over the edge. It's the one common thread that binds blind faith. I don't like deceit of any kind and this stuff is nothing but.

Are you using the term "blind faith" as a specific taunt at the religious preaching presentations of our more stalwart creationists on this board? Or, do you mean "blind faith" in a generic application of all applicably termed observations?

I mean it in a general application of any blind faith. Anything that causes you to deny reality and still "believe" it. It escapes me, always has. Astrology comes to mind immediately, I know people who plan their days according to their horoscope.

Oh, I think there are exceptions to "blind faith" that are not necessarily deceitful. You seem to be making a carte blanche statement? No wiggle room at all?

I also know people who go to "readers" and believe every single thing they say. I have one friend who tried to convince me that the general quesitons she asked got her there. She hangs on and believes every word. She thinks everything is a sign from somebody, her dead mother, her dead uncle, God, ghosts, you name it. I nod my head and change the subject. She knows how I feel, and she laughs and talks about something else. I just don't buy it, every coincidence isn't a sign. Every catastrophe isn't a judgement, it's life. Life is change, that's all it is. If you don't accept it, you drive yourself crazy. Change is good, it means you're living.

Oh, I see where you are going with this. Yes, the psychic business is booming, I just saw another shop open up on the other end of town.
So, you don't believe in any sort of telepathy of the mind, I would imagine. No kinetics, or spoon bending, either?

Nope.

That means coincidence rules your day? You have to believe in those.

eg we had a bunch of miners die in a mine collapse about 4 survived they were mix of theists and atheists as were the dead.
some guys risked their lives to get them out. some prayed via television and asked for money.
when they got the survivors out the prayers called it a miracle and proof of god and asked for more cash. they did not mention the majority that got crushed by big falling rocks.
shit like that happens all the time.
