I have been registering the puppies of my SV Registered Dam with the AKC because I thought that was the only avenue available to me. I have not been keeping puppies for my breeding program, because they were only registerd with the AKC and I could not take them back to Germany for breeding, ect under the SV system. Can I register the AKC offspring of my my SV Dam with USA, thus making them eligble to take all exams in Germany, thus being able to breed back with the SV Shepherds, in Germany? The tattoos I have my vet insert in my puppies ears are my own generic 2 letter, 4 number combinations. It seems that all my hard work in breeding in Germany and importing the SV dogs, just ends in an AKC registration, and I want more than that for my program. Thanks in advance for any help that is offered.

Hi SGBH! I registered my dog with an individual registration through the USA. He has a certified AKC pedigree and also SV registration. He has his A-Stamp with the SV and his blood has also been taken for DNA. He will be breed surveyed and titled with SV judges. It has been a long process and you have to wait for the documentation from the USA some 9 months. All original documentation goes to the USA and you receive a pending letter which makes it possible to show your dog in the interim. This pending letter was also accepted by WDA shows. I would recommend your contacting the USA. Hope this helps and lots of luck to you.

Once your pup is AKC registered. It can do everything everywhere in Germany. Your pups from the dogs you send to Germany to be titled, shown, etc...will be born in the US and registered AKC here also. Only litters born in Germany can be registered directly with the SV. All other countries are registered with their FCI registery and SV additions are added. The AKC pedigree is the only US pedigree recognized by the SV including their own addition you get through USA. The SV will a stamp, DNA, etc the AKC 4 generation pedigree. They did a 3 generation I have here for a female. The AKC pedigree gets them into shows and surveys there. If you send the Pink SV addition to the SVC along with your SV addition, the SV may add the info to that pedigree also.

Dog1, was going through the USA absolutely unnecessary? Thanks.

The most important thing is that your dogs are AKC-registered. The USA registration (individual or litter) is not worth much. You need it to show here in the U.S. in their events. Once your dog enters Germany, the SV only wants to see the AKC registration (plus the AKC certified pedigree). So far, I have sent 3 of my homebred dogs to Germany for titling, they all had to have AKC, the SV did not want the USA papers. If you sell one of your homebred dogs in Germany, the SV will ask for the AKC papers and then issue new SV papers for the dog (but only if the new owner resides in Germany). That brings me to another topic: The SV does not recognize OFA certifications! Not, if you intend to show and breed survey in Germany. Only a-stamps and other certain West European hip certifications are recognized. Chris

Thanks for the info. I have a picture of what is going on now. I have only dealt with SV registered(since 1982) dogs in going back to Germany and thought that since they would not register the dogs SV that were born in the states, that I could not take my AKC registered puppy back for tittling, showing and breeding. That solves the dilima for me. I am keeping a female pup for future use from the litter that will be born in 6 days! THANKS GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The SV will allow owners of AKC registered German Shepherds to complete the DNA, Hip & Elbow x-rays if the dog is in Germany by a German Vet. and the SV will stamp the AKC pedigree with the results. While most owners do not take their dogs to Germany .. This does allow for the owner to complete the test without going through the WDA or USA. The total cost in Germany is $190 Euros for the doctor and about $50 for the SV. The pedigree is back in about 4 to 6 weeks. This may make sense for owners that plan to send a dog to Germany for training or competition.
