33,000 deaths by guns in this country versus 100 in this incident. Silly conservatives they don't even know simple math, what is greater than? Here let me show you some simple math. 33,000 > 100. So, you are outraged over this truck but not so much over the senseless deaths of 33,000 people a year in the states. Plus the 100,000s that are wounded a year. Your comment here proves what type of SILLY person you really are.

GSDAdmin, you are not going to change anyone's mind on guns.  I know I will continue to keep mine although I have been taught how to use them safely.  Just not going to happen.  I also know many on here feel the same way, if you don't want guns, then don't own one but don't say others shouldn't have them.  Kind of like saying "I think Pitt bulls are dangerous therefore no one should have one."

Although I would like to know where you got your statistics from regarding gun deaths and injuries?

Think about this, a person is sexually assaulted in the United States every 2 minutes, every 8 minutes, that victim is a child, 91% are women or girls.  Every 9 seconds, someone is the victim of domestic violence.  6 out of 1,000 perpetrators make it to sentencing.  1 out of 6 women has been the victim of attempted or completed rape. 55% of sexual assaults occur at or near home with 48% of those victims sleeping or in bed when the attack occurred.  3 out of 4 rapes are committed by someone the victim knew. 57% of rapists are white.  Only 6% of rapes were perpetrated at gun point, most of the time it was fists, feet, and other weapons.  994 out of 1,000 rapists will go free and never see a day of jail time.  2 out of 3 rapes go unreported, 2% of reported rapes are false allegations. Every day in the United States, 3 women are killed by intimate partners and of that number, 20% are killed by family or friends of the intimate partner.  20 people are abused a minute in this country by initmate partners, 19% of domestic violence involves a weapon.   (statistics from CDC, FBI, DOJ).  So you see, no f-ing way will I give up my guns or will any other woman who has them on this database give up hers.  The risk of violence is too great......

90 people a day lose their lives to gun violence. 100s are maimed for life. 100000s are affected by gun violence. Guns don't make you safe. Guns don't stop sex assaults. We can play the who has a bigger one game all day and as we do another 90 people will die. 1,000s will be affected. The blood will never be on my hands, ever.

Unfortunately with the crime what it is, most can protect themselves with a gun once properly trained.  You will not be able to keep guns out of the hands of criminals because they don't use legal means to get them.  Just like this knee jerk reaction to pain medication addiction, rather than address the underlying reasons for addiction, the government enacts such stringent pain management that paw abiding citizens with chronic pain who have NEVER misused their pain medication are now finding out they will be facing not having their pain managed appropriately.  It seems once the knee jerking reactions take over, the law abiding citizen is the one harmed.

" You will not be able to keep guns out of the hands of criminals because they don't use legal means to get them. "

We can't do anything if we don't try. I would have never learned to ride a bike if I didn't try. You are using cop outs and deflections to try and convince me of something we have never tried. And you are confusing gun control with gun banning. I don't want to ban guns but common sense gun control laws are IMO needed. More and more legal guns are being used to kill and I would venture to guess that more legal guns are used to kill than illegal guns. Wife has an affair husband kills her with a legal gun. Family fight ends with the mother killing her daughters with surprise a legal gun. Because at any second that well meaning person can snap and kill with a legal gun. As more and more die, there will come a time when I and others will possibly start advocating for a gun ban. The more who die the more who will push for an outright ban. It is up to legal gun owners to fix the problem because I will never own a gun so it is almost impossible for me to fix the gun problem and only those who own guns can fix it before it is to late and the government decides to fix it. But I can gaurantee you one thing if we never try and fix it, it will never be fixed.

Where do most illegal guns come from?

The amount of training needed to protect yourself with a gun is beyond most what most people are capable of. Besides the physical skills, which are perishable, there is a mental component that many will never be able to overcome. Also, most rapes are done by someone the victim knows which means there is a degree of comfortableness which leads to a lowering of defenses.

If you are sleeping, your gun won't help you. If you are on a date, your gun won't help you. If the rapist hits you with a right cross or puts you in a choke hold from behind while your gun is holstered or in your purse, it won't help you. If you are at the point where only a gun can save you then it's probably too late. I'm not saying to not own a gun but I am saying that if sexual assault is a genuine concern then having your whole rape prevention plan revolve around a firearm is a recipe for failure.

@Noitsyou, "The amount of training needed to protect yourself with a gun is beyond most what most people are capable of."  Really????  I have come to realize by reading your posts that you have a very dim view of humanity.  I have gone through the training, even deadly force/shoot-don't shoot training, combat course, etc.  The point is, it is not beyond most people, it takes critical thinking skills and ability to learn.  "if sexual assault is a genuine concern then having your whole rape prevention plan revolve around a firearm is a recipe for failure."  Who said anything about having your whole rape prevention revolve around a gun?

Most women when asked after the fact said they felt something was off, or wrong.  Human beings, especially women, are the only being that will talk itself out of listening to instincts.  Most women are conditioned by society to "be nice", "smile", "don't be so emotional", "calm down", "don't overreact", "boys will be boys", "don't ruin his life because of a simple misunderstanding", and so on.  Women are conditioned to be acquiescent, or at least the older generations are, thankfully the younger generations are not following those expectations.  Unfortunately in the case of sexual harassment and sexual assault, women are still women's own worst enemy.

I was in the military and weapons training is a perishable skill and it is beyond most people to commit the time and effort to learn and maintain that skill. People can't even commit to a diet and/or exercise. Also, the ability to use that skill in a real situation is not always trainable. Even trained cops and soldiers have frozen under stress.

I don't have a dim view of humanity, I'm simply a realist. I don't hold it against people that they will most likely fail to fulfill their human potential.

Go to any martial arts school and see the number of men vs women. The more vulnerable of the two sexes is less likely to commit to the training necessary to aid in the prevention of sexual assault. Even when it comes to men, most are not training. Which brings us back to my original point.
