Hello,
My 8 month old German Shepherd starting limping when he was around 4 months old. It was front legs and switch from one leg to the other so set up appt. for xrays thinking it is Pano. 4 days later got to the vet and limping had stopped by then so no pictures done. Now he is 8 months old and really limping bad left leg and thought maybe a bout of pano because the boy is growing fast weighed in @ 82.5 lbs today. They took pictures today and he thinks it could be this HOD or elbow dysplascia . So he sent the pictures to a radiologist to see what they come up with. Even though the boy is 82.5 lbs it's not fat he is all muscle and bones and growing quickly. I lowered his protein level. He has a hell of a ball drive so we have been trying to keep him calm for the past few days no change. We use to play ball right after work ( 10 to 15 minutes)and working on his out and sit. His drive is so intense when he is sitting he is quivering and then he is very vocal if I take to long to throw the ball. The good thing is when ball time is over he has a nice shut off very calm in the house. Well with that being said the vet gave me Carprofen caplets 75mg. One caplet every 12 hours and gave me Trazodone 100mg 1-3 tablets 3 times daily for 8 hours to keep him calm. Oh and he is working lines. So I was wondering if anyone has had to deal with HOD? And if so what were the results? I'm asking because they said if it is HOD he can still get bouts of it off and on even into later years. He did email me the pictures they took today but I can figure out how to download them. I did manage to set them on my desktop. And try to download it here says error. I did get a hold of the breeder and and asked him if he knew any littermates have the problem. He said he didn't think they did he kept 3 littermates back to train and no problem there and I trust his word.
Thanks in advance
Steve
