Hey guys, Does anybody in Colorado know of a good place to get hip xrays and tattooing done? My vet does xrays but not tattooing and I wanted to get both done when she was under instead of having her put under twice. Thanks

Find a vet who does lots and lots of German Shepherd hip x-rays. You do not say how old your dog is. If he/she is old enough even for a preliminary x-ray, it is far past the time where it is a good idea to tattoo the ear. It is probably worth considering using a pen tattoo kit to tattoo the inside of the thigh. A few years ago I called every single vet in the front range area and not a single one would tattoo. You may have to buy a kit yourself and do it. Good luck.

Hey Hodie, Yeah I was hoping somebody could tell me a vet that did alot of GSDs for the Xrays. My vet does xrays but I'd rather have somebody do it that has done alot of GSDs. And you are right she is past having the tattoo done in the ear I was thinking the inside of the thigh as well. I found one vet here in Denver that can do it, I'm just not sure how great of a job he can do on xrays, and that is why I'm still looking.

My female is 3years old, I recently got her ear tatooed (pen tattoo) while she was under. No problems at all, she didn't even seem to be bothered. My vet usually does the inside of the thigh but I specifically asked that it be done in the ear for competition reasons. My trainers said you don't want to put your dog on its back right before it competes to show its tattoo. take care, Melanie

Brian, I have taken two of my Shutzhund dogs to Gerald Pasek in Englewood for prelims and OFA's. I highly reccommend him. He is a wonderful working dog vet. I've known a lot of people who used their own vet for x-rays and then had to go to Dr. Pasek because their vet screwed up position. If I didn't live so far north I'd used him as my regular. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. Ladida thanks for the help I found his number and will be giving him a call. Who do you train with in Colorado? If you don't mind me asking. I train with Frontrange Hundensport with my female and American Dog School/American K-9 with my male for PSA. GSDfan, I already have one floppy ear GSD. I'll just take my chances of my dog having to show her thigh. She is a hard enough female that she shouldn't be bothered by it. As a matter of fact if she is bothered by something that small I would probably sell her. I know that sounds terrible but a good GSD should have a strong enough temperament to deal with something that small.

Brian, I just saw your post and although it looks like you already found a Veterinarian to do your dog's hip x-rays, I thought I would still give you the name and number of a Vet we have used for over 10 years. His name is Dr. Neal Sliker and he is an Orthopedic Specialist/Surgeon at East Springs Animal Hospital in Colorado Springs. He has x-rayed all of our German Shepherds (puppies and adults) and has yet to be wrong in predicting what the OFA/"a" stamp program would rate each of our dog's hips. His number is 719-591-4545.

SLbghshep, Thanks for the recommendation. I'll give him a call as well. I talked to the Vet posted above and he seems to know his stuff, but it never hurts to talk to someone else. Do you know if he does tattooing?

Brian, Yes, they also do tattooing there and have for many years. In my opinion, Dr. Sliker really is the best!
