What are your dogs into?

I just would like to know what are your dogs involved in? Schutzhund, SAR, PPD, OB, Agility etc.?
And why you got involved in it?
This is not a threat to bash one type of activity over another one, I am just curious, that’s it. I am sure that a lot of future and new GSD owners would like to know before committing to one type of activity over another.

Thanks J

Schutzhund, AKC obedience, and AKC rally so far. To be brutally honest, the AKC venues to me are enjoyable, you deal with a LOT less ego, but the schutzhund training itself is more fun.  I think I may go for a VCD (AKC Obedience/agility/tracking) on one of my girls, my daughter certainly wants a VCD on her puppy and at least a SchH1.  My UD dog is also PPD trained. They have both passed TDI. These are the most versatile dogs in the world, who says you have to commit to one activity? If you set the learning curve at a young age, they can learn new things their whole life! I took my 5 and a half year old tracking for maybe the second time in her life yesterday, and she did GREAT!  I got involved in schutzhund because I wanted to breed and do it right. I got involved in AKC because I love every facet of dog training and I think its extremely important for the european type to been at AKC events. New GSD owners should try a bit of everything, see what they and their dog enjoy the most, then pursue it. Your first dog is for learning- hell, every dog you own is for learning!

Obedience/Rally: CKC, UKC and maybe AKC (we'll see what happens with gas prices).  CKC tracking, the new Urban tracking is very interesting!   I'm toying with OB and TR in Schutzhund but like KCzaja, I prefer the CKC environment.  And carting.  A Berner (Bernese Mountain dog) friend introduced me to carting with my previous GSD.  Since I own the cart and harness I might was well use it!

My dogs are into the trash. Why? Because it's good is my guess.

Thanks for sharing guys. It is really good to hear that so many people are into so many different things rather than focusing on just single activity. I my self was always doing obedience and agility. But recently I got interested in PPD, I am considering schutzhund as well, and I will try to get BH for my dog, and take it from there. The breeder that I am getting my new pup from gave me very good advice “take one little step at a time and sooner or later you will know what your dogs weaknesses and strengths are, while you learn that than you can start to think about the next level.

These are the most versatile dogs in the world, who says you have to commit to one activity? KCzaja said it best!

We do CGC, TDI, RN, CD.  We also  do Comformation showing (working on my 15 month old 2 majors to go!!!) , and Personal protection, Narcotics , tracking.

if Gas ever gets normal again take a trip out to TN for SDA  trails (sitting and waiting for our titles).

Currently training two females for obedience (ckc or akc) and i'm showing one. Never tried Rally but looks very fun.

I did some schutzhund and some agility before. Really liked schutzhund but conflict in the club and the too matcho attitudes drove me out. Agility is really fun too..but I do it for fun..I don't think I would compete in that area.

Looking forward to do some herding this fall..can't wait..That's really something I would love to learn about..
