Wellness is good....california natural(innova brand)... Flint river is good...Holistic foods.Canidae I would not consider due to fillers Brown Rice, White Rice.have read about dogs having bloat with it also do to the high acid content. i took a class on holistic food and treatments....very good info i found out.....Dog eats cooked meals.I eat drive thru

I found Innova to be too rich. Have friends who feed Flint River and swear by it. No personal experience. Canidae, just did not like it. Personal favorite is Eaglepack. Orig Kennel Pack or Naturla Formula.

TWO WORDS FOR YOU -- RAW DIET !!! DOGS ARE CARNIVORS !! Overly processed, extruded foods are just that -- there are some people - more than just a few - that will not feed any food that contains grains or other ingredients that FERMENT -- BEET PULP, TOMATO PUMACE, RICE IN ANY FORM. There is a good reason for this. Additionally, why would anyone want to feed a "processed food" that has been sitting on a shelf in a warehouse for 8-12 months !!! Why do you think these foods can even last that long -- ALL KINDS OF PRESERVATIVES - that come out in your dogs ear problems, digestive problems, breeding problems, kidney problems, etc. etc. etc. RAW DIET should be at least 50% of the dogs food - if not all. We do not give puppies any "Dry" Food until 7-8 MONTHS OLD -- period................ but that's just me !!

My dogs are fed Flint River Trout and Potato. They love it and do well on it. They are also very picky. Hope this helps...

But for convenience, far too much emphasis is placed on the manufactured products. Variety is the spice .... (and we're not speaking here of switching one extrusion for another!)

I really get concerned from time to time -- when people say "my dog is picky" -- and how did it come to be that way -- When you feed a litter of pups- breeders start out by putting down one or two pans of food -- If you want to eat -- and you are one of 10 - you better hurry or you get nothing - or lick the empty bowl. Even if you have only one littermate - there is still competition. When pups go to new homes there is a period of adjustment - so-- if they have an upset tummy or the water doesn't agree with them - they got a day or two without eating -- that should be the beginning and the end of it !! I believe that owners MAKE picky eaters -- a healthy dog is hungry all the time. The last two pups I raised would never think about missing a meal -- and 15 minutes later, they're looking for more . They are not fat, they are not underweight. The food gets put down and they eat it - It's goine before I get across the kitchen -- I have 5 dogs - different breedings, different lines, imported and my own - and they all eat the same - why do you suppose that is -- They are not coddled - the food goes down and if it's still there in 10 minutes it comes up -- no disucssion. As pups they learn to eat in the "pen" in the basement, in the kitchen - loose, in the crate -- in the kennel -- out on the deck -- wherever I put the food down - that's where they're expected to eat it - and nobody asks any questions. There is no encouragement, no pookey baby please eat - no let me wad this up into meatballs and throw it at you -- That's a lot of baloney. Free feeding -- ?? don't even go there -- I have issues with people who say I have to be home at 6 to feed the dog or she will tear up the house !!! A healthy dog will not starve -- and dogs look forward to and ENJOY the same food every day -- They don't THINK -- gee I had this three days in a row -- I really want a hamburger and fries tonight !!! PICK A FOOD - and feed it - and that's that -- If they don't have a temperature, and they're drinking water -- they will eat -- eventually - and after that they will not turn down another meal - I have a friend who did this for 9 days -- put down food - dog didn't eat - took it up in 10 minutes -- every day -- after 5-6 days, same thing, she didn't bother to put it down -- by the 8th day - the dog came around saying hey -- you forgot my dinner !!! When she put it down - he ate - and he never missed a meal for the next 10 years !! FOR SURE !! There are far more picky owners, than dogs -- You think the raw meat stinks - but the dog DOESN'T !!

I agree, Pineridge, no health dog will ever starve itself to death. Most of my dogs would have eaten sawdust and licked the bowl clean; their dishes were almost empty by the time they hit the kennel floor. One vet I worked for always said the best incentive to get a picky dog to eat was 2 dogs and one dish LOL.

Well put Pineridge.
