GSDNewbie,

My husband and I have 2 kids in college at different universities.  My daughter receives more federal student loan money than my son.   So, I think it has to do with the institution.   However, kids from single parent homes get so much more help.  I have friends who have kids attending one of the same universities that my son goes to and they pay about $100 per semester because the parents are divorced (parents income is about the same as our income).  Needless to say, we pay about $6,000 a semester for the same school (that is after a couple small federal student loans).   Middle class, married parents do not get much help for college.    I have also heard about divorces among married couples so that they can get more money in federal student loans/grants.

If I had kids in college, that would be a concern for me too. What did Obama do that made it worse or was it the same way when Bush was the Pres? Are you talking about Pell Grants for kids from single parent  homes?

The greater question is,
where will these students find jobs in their respective fields in this global economy?
Check the statistics.

Also I am confused,
did Shtal start a political thread, or a religious thread.

I love the new crown by the way.

You guys still think one man controls our country, that's just foolishness.
Two hundred years LOL.

I haven't missed much since my last visit, things seem the same as always here on the forum.

My best wishes for you all,
Moons.

Pell grants can also be awarded to kids from a home where the parents are married if they qualify.  We don't qualify.  The past 2 years, the process for applying and the requirements have changed for FAFSA.   There is now more paperwork involved in the process than there was 3 years ago.  Even this year was different from last year with regard to the forms.

Moons, you're right, there aren't a lot of jobs in many fields.  That is why we told our children to pick fields where there was a need and the projected future of those careers looked good.  My son graduates this coming May with a degree in computer science with an emphasis on network security and a minor in business.  My daughter is in a pharmacy program.  We have friends whose kids chose majors like theater writing or parks and recreation.  Those kids either don't have jobs or are working at the mall.
