I was told by my beloved daughter last week to plant some garlic and catnip for mosquito control..I have marigolds but only by one side of garage where we do not go much..I need some plants back on the patio area...
Never planted catnip..\

Not the Allium family.
Here is another clue, the whole plant... guess again!
@YR: There are citronella plants you can buy, I have one on my deck. I have no idea if it works, but we like to think it does, lol ! I don't think garlic or catnip will bother a skeeter. Best to empty all sources of standing water and wear light colored clothes at dusk. And I always light my citronella candles all over the place.

I am sorry about that Susie! You would not have any Monarch butterflies in your forest!
Monarch butterflies begin life as eggs and hatch as larvae that eat their eggshells and, subsequently, the milkweed plants on which they were placed. (Monarchs are dependent on milkweed plants, which larvae eat nearly exclusively.)
Here is some interesting information: http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/bugs/monarch-butterfly/?rptregcta=reg_free_np&rptregcampaign=20140623_t1_rw_membership_r1p_us_se_w#

Moving day, into my studio... Finally!
Three flights of stairs is just good exercise. That fridge was only $98 at Home Depot! Just a start, now, give me time to really set up and start the first paintings.
I already got locked out and had to call management to help me get back in. A nice girl with a basket of art cards and a female pit was kind enough to help me out. My GF helped me do the moving. We perspired, lol! I couldn't use the provided A/C because I did not know I needed to provide my own extension cord.
I do love it, at any rate! Joy!

The netting kept the birds at bay...
but it's time to pick the berries, so the net comes off today!
Not enough for a pie, but plenty for breakfast!
Not bad for the first pick on my baby blueberry bush! Yum!

Congratulations on getting berries..I have been afraid to try a blueberry bush...we went to Brownsboro to Echo Farm and bought 30 lbs of blueberries...NOW frozen but I might like to try a bush..years ago Lindale was the blackberry capital of Texas .
Since there are 3 blueberry farms near , I might get lucky..you will have to send me tips ...
I have a BIG REQUEST... Post a picture of the BABY BOY DRAKE on the Natural Stance thread on Main or do a head shot ..on GOT HEAD>>>

Well, my secret is neglect, LOL. I bought the first blueberry bush two years ago and couldn't decide where to plant it. If I put it in the back yard, Drake would pee on it and kill it. The front yard didn't seem right, so, it sat in the pot until it was too late to plant! I didn't want to put it in the garage for the winter, there are no windows. It got tucked behind the AC unit in the back yard, I was hoping it would be shielded from the snow and cold between there and the house. Forgot completely about it and in spring, I saw bright green leaves poking out from behind the AC and voila, it not only survived, it doubled in size! I again couldn't decide where to plant it and it remained in the pot until August, when I finally planted it in the front yard flower garden. Spring brought the first beautiful flowers and I got a second one, already in bloom and planted it too. Now I have plump berries and the plants are hardy and healthy! They like full sun, so I guess, after all of the doubt, it's the perfect spot. Neglect won the day, LOL!
I'll check out that thread and post Mr. big headed D-man!
