I am only a nurse and do not have extensive training/study in diseases of the mind...But, I have enjoyed Mudwicks posts on the topic...Mudwick has not contradicted anything that I was taught during school...
I agree with Mudwick when he said, "Taking any medication, for any purpose, is a risk/benefit scenario.".....Unless one has suffered from a mental illness, it is hard to imagine it being as devastating and debilitating as diseases like cancer, but IMO it is, and many times worse..The need for treatment is as necessary as chemotherapy is for a cancer patient and not without risks....
Mental illness is very humbling to study....: ( My heart brakes for people who suffer from extreme forms of mental illness....

Mudwick, most of what you say here, whether quoted or not is just wrong information. Narcissism comes in different diagnoses, you ought to know that.
Preston, the article in the OP is about Narcissistic Personality Disorder, not the personality trait.
I stated elsewhere in this thread that people often have some traits of personality disorders, without having the specific disorders themselves.
I also stated elsewhere in this thread [unless it was in one of my posts that was cut off, in which case, I'm stating it now], that the upcoming DSM revision will remove specific Personality Disorder dXs, and replace them with a generalized "Personality Disorder Trait Specified" dX, followed by listing the core traits the individual expresses.
You're tilting at windmills here, since I never said that narcissistic traits are limited solely to NPD [I EXPLICITELY stated otherwise].
Mudwick if you want the latest actual research goto a top medical research library and buy a pass and spend a few weeeks doing research.
Is the University of Washington no longer considered a top medical school?
Last I checked, it was ranked 9th in the entire nation for medical research.

Mudwick, now if you want to start paying for real research here is but one example. If you want to pay for this cutting edge latest research, the costs add up quickly. This is how researchers obtain others work. Either they pay for it or their dept has a subscription to most of the publishers for easy, fast access.

Why would I pay for something I already have?
If anyone else wants the article [which has nothing to do with Personality Disorders], this link will initiate a direct download of the full article published in Science Magazine, which Preston linked to.
