"Slamdunc, I'm a Moderator and no one controls me, carry on folks".

I used to think "no one controls me also", I got a 9 month vacation & a new user name for thinking like that. LOL

LOOOOL....so we create drama while complaining about drama...good one!

This is OT where the drama should be. Besides I don't see this as drama. Others may and that is their right.

Hexe,

I have tried to get Oli to go with the paid approach. I came up with lots of ways to make premium memberships worthwhile but Oli over time gave most of those ideas away for free. lol. Like printing PDF pedigrees and so forth.

I agree that Facebook has a lot to do with the correspondence here dropping off. I had to move my own breed board to FB, members wanted it. The owners of  FB accounts make the rules and enforce them as they see fit. For show line people it's just more pleasant and less threatening to be able to talk about their dogs with like minded polite members and to discuss improving their dogs without being interrupted by bitter , mean spirited, and inebriated  naysayers. If that happens on most FB dog boards, it results in expulsion. On a board like this one it generally results in the complainers being called cry babies with crap dogs who  can't take criticism.

I think this board will remain popular for the pedigrees and other information, but I don't think that charging to use it would be anything but  a negative that will lead to less messages. I think members will leave and join up with free  FB account/s or just drop out of the breed all together. I can see a few staying here, those who wouldn't last 10 minutes on most FB accounts.

The forums would still be free as always. Except maybe a members only forum area. I am talking an advanced chat and different ideas that we came up with.

Hexe,
I also have a tremendous respect for you and really enjoy reading your posts.  You have a wealth of knowledge to offer.  Even when I may disagree with you, I still respect your opinion.  I think you need to work on your analogies though.  Wink Smile

On occasion I go on Facebook, but I am not very active.  I see the pros and cons of facebook and people posting every aspect of their day gets tedious.  However, if someone would be kind enough to PM me some good dog related forums or face book groups, I'd like to check them out.  I am a member of a few dog related forums that I visit occasionally.  I fail to see how face book is the cause for the decline of informative posts on here?  It may have drawn some users away, but why?   The other forums I visit are far more active than this one.  I will admit that there is always bickering on those forums and sometimes it gets pretty intense.  But, that is to be expected on an internet forum.  However, because the dog training topics are more active one can easily avoid the drama.  You have many more training, behavior, feeding, etc. questions being asked and answered that you have to look pretty hard to find the drama.

Gouda,
Welcome back!   I have to disagree with you.  IPO is not the issue here.  There are plenty of other dog activities that could be topics of conversation.  There are a lot of dog owners with OB issues, dominance and aggression problems.  There are tons of people that may want to do tracking, agility, SAR, nose work, AKC Rally, Conformation showing.  The list is endless.  IPO and face book are not the root of the problem, IMO.

GSD,
You are correct that I have no desire to PM you, I have done that and really am not interested in relentless PM's back and forth.  I responded to you and now I am done, you can take it for what's it's worth.  Thank you for validating what I posted.

No the root of the problem is people can't follow rules and then when they get in trouble they pick up there equipment and go to different fields. Also, a ton of people left when Oli did the site redesign.

You can try and blame me/us all you want but it doesn't hold water. You know what is said about opinions?

Slamdunc

Can I respond?

I don't think that is really the issue.

Slamdunc. We are allowed, as moderators, to speak freely to GSD admin and the other mods. For the most part GSD allows us, as moderators, to do what we feel is best as a group. As GSD said we mods have to be on the same page, and when a mod feels he is not in the majority then they should step down.. We are in no way controlled by GSD admin. As a matter of fact, most times the mods are way more opinionated than GSD. Some of the previous mods removed themselves from the position when they found that they were not supporting the majority. While some of the other mods, from the past, needed to be removed. We have GSD and (Mr darcy) to thank, as these mods did not have the best interest of the PDB as there motivation. And please don't listen to the chattering of disgruntled mods. Common sense should tell you that. FYI No one controls Shawty either.
