The global terror alert that brought the closure of 19 U.S. embassies across the Muslim world was the result of a secret message the head of al Qaeda in Pakistan sent to his counterpart in Yemen ordering him to launch a strike, two security officials revealed today.
A U.S. intelligence official and a Mideast diplomat said electronic communications were picked up several weeks ago between Ayman al-Zawahri - the head of the global terror network who succeeded Osama bin Laden - and Nasser al-Wuhayshi, head of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.
Officials had previously called the communication 'strategically significant' and likened the intelligence 'chatter' to that intercepted in the days leading up to 9/11.

I personally think it's a lame joke, two guys on the phone who know they're being monitored talking shit.
I bet they get as much fun out of it as they do actually blowing something up.
Unless the whole story is made up to begin with.
Never trust your government not to lie and manipulate you.
Diane Sawyer mentioned an American connection last night on the news but no one else has followed with similar information.
It was vague to start with so now I give it no credibility period.
carlin,
I don't believe it was corrupted over time, I think they knew what they were doing from the get go.

I honestly wish I knew who to believe. I know Russia has vested strategic and economic interests tied to the Assad regime, but in reality, how different are those from our own?
