Bee, this is my last post to you. I'm not trying to discredit you. I was answering your post and what followed by you didn't make sense at the time. Sorry. I'm still a little foggy, as I haven't been able to eat anything for three days. No, I'm not sick, per se, just have a screwed up esophagus after getting a bite of food lodged in my throat, Friday night, and came close to cashing in. Go ahead and have fun with that. Maybe you can work it into you rhyme. I really don't care, 'cause at this point I have more important things to worry about. (important to me at least).

The limerick in my head was never meant for you.
I truly am sorry you are having a personal health issue, as I do not wish you any ill will. That has never been what I am all about. Sounds like you had a quite a fright. Glad you still walk amongst us. If this is the last post, from you to me, I'll likely manage to get by with that fact.

"Hexe, in the case of parenting a pre-schooler by others who are not a parent, I wonder how does one define an adoptive parent with this theory, hmm? Also, I am always leery about theories that end up "blaming the mother", it is all too common and too easy for this to lead into something else!
As a comparison, I think the priviledge classes of most cultures have had infant childrearing help, beginning with wet-nurses throughout civilized history, so I think a child's healthy psychological, mental-well being, has to do more with the quality of the nurturing time by the biological parent(s), mothers in particular it would seem, but really I don't think gender matters as much, but the interactive, quality of the care and not merely the hours spent in a same room. FWIW"
bee, I understand your point, and I believe the key lies within whether the child in question views the adoptive parent, or the live-in wet-nurse, nanny and/or governess as a member of the child's family, and when it comes to children under the age of 3, whether those persons fulfill the child's innate need for nurturing with a 'maternal' energy--and that's regardless of whether that maternalistic nurturing is provided by a male or a female. It is for that reason I don't think day care workers or nannies can adequately compensate for time the child spends away from individuals it has identified as members of his or her family: Children below the kindergarten age have an enormous need for constants in their life, especially as it pertains to the people to who the child is obliged to entrust it's physical and emotional welfare.

joanro, glad you didn't succumb to the freak choking episode...have been there myself, hooray for the self-Heimlich technique! Certainly does play havoc with your throat for an astonishingly long time afterward, too.

Remember when being a house wife and mother was a worthy endevore ?
