A simple way to check whether your dog has a correct high withers in relation to its topline

​Draw a line between tip of lower jaw when mouth is open (if not open then the point is imaginary at 4 cms under) and top point of tailset (where it starts at end of croup), if the line is:
1. slightly sloping backwards then topline is correct and withers is correct (high).
2. Level, then withers is incorrect (flat) but topline is ok..
3. Slightly sloping forward, then topline is incorrect, withers is low (your dog may fall on his head while gaiting, when fatigue takes place).
4. Steep backwards, topline is incorrect, withers is wrong (steep withers and your dog will swim in the air while gaiting)



Lol, first picture is wrong, as left end of the line is passing through the beginning of the croup, you can do that when checking the croup of your neighbor's dog, lol.

 

Trying to be serious for a minute, the longer the croup the better line you get, the shorter it is the worse line you get, this proves there is a positive relation between the croup and withers, also if the croup is steep you get a steeper line which leads the dog to kick up in the air, this shows how important high withers and a correct croup are for a smooth and effective movement of a dog.
