Person "A" is completely self centered, while person(s) "B" risks the ultimate sacrifice. WH's "contribution" is consequential at best, and amounts to little more than some kind of estrogen fueled emotional therapy session.

by beetree on 17 February 2012 - 22:02

It's not as simple as all that. And yes, I do think the fact that she was a Sista', is part of the ongoing media interest. Carlin, I'm doing my best not to call you a male chauvinist pig. LOL

Give me a little credit bee, the unedited version of my last post utilized the word "poisoned" instead of "fueled". :-D

by beetree on 18 February 2012 - 13:02

Carlin,

If estrogen is the fuel or poison of self-based destruction, then testosterone is the fuel or poison of worldly destruction.

I like to always give credit where it is due.

Mostly my point is, one should not be compared to each other as a way of pinning value to a particular lifetime, and whether or not their manner of passing must meet every bodies moral standards to garner sympathy.

I did not say that she (WH) did not deserve sympathy or was worthless.

I still think this statement of yours is debatable:
but their contribution to society was more valuable

That is my opinion.  I value integrity and self sacrifice over fame and fortune.

by beetree on 18 February 2012 - 14:02

All I'm saying is why do they need to be compared, because in the end, all that is done by doing that, is to demean one over the other. I don't think Whitney should be demeaned because of her personal devils. JMHO

Bee - IMO, self destructive behavior is not prejudice; I was referring more to the communal emotional therapy.

by beetree on 18 February 2012 - 15:02

OK, you need to expound on that bit, a little more for me! Are you calling singers and their songs, "communal emotional therapy? LOL

We were talking about WH, not all artists. You have to hand it to Clive however, absolute marketing genius to be able to produce, bottle, package, and market that thick, pure, sappy goo and make millions. FWIW- she had an amazing voice.

by beetree on 18 February 2012 - 21:02

Carlin, how else did you mean someone like me to understand, "communal", that word takes in a much larger number than one Whitney. I don't begrudge people who manage to make a good living with their talents. Really, I never bought a single one of her albums, either. I just think we can give respect to the dead just because they are dead, soley because whoever is dead is not sharing the gift of life with us. That is usually a loss for someone, and how much of a loss will vary. Why make it a contest. That makes no sense.
