Chaz, I have dreams about that filet...I can't eat beef that has even a hint of pink to it, so I always apologize to the chef in advance because I know it kills them to do that to a good steak, but they didn't even bat an eye at Emeril's when I gave them my order.  Then they placed in front of me the most beautifully seared, aromatically seductive hunk of beef I'd ever come across, and when I cut into it the knife went through as if it were slicing a stick of butter. Truly an orgasmic dining experience, and one I've not been able to replicate exactly since then. Some places came close, but that Emeril's filet set the bar for a perfect steak and it will be difficult to beat in my lifetime, I'm sure.  It's the only thing that could entice me to willingly go to NOLA ever again...too hot, too smelly, too cramped for my liking.

So if you're going to ask for a filet for your last meal, insist that it come from Emeril's original restaurant. You will not regret it being the final steak you ever get to eat.

Well, I've had filet in New Orleans quite a bit. Ate at Commander's Palace a few times. One of the best restaurants in the US. Great Filet. If you ever go back, go there. I believe it is on Washington. Get a reservation in advance. One of the best filets I had down there was at Igor's on St. Charles. I took friends back there and it was average.

The weird thing with me, if I was seriously having a last meal, I would go with an extra large pizza. I love pizza. I'm addicted to pizza. I eat it and after I'm done, I eat more. I can't help myself. It is my kryptonite. I can't stop til it's gone.

That is why I would get an extra large. I want to eat so much that I will want to die. Otherwise, I'd go with a seared Ahi with asparagus and some garlic mashed. Or maybe just a tub full of mashed potatoes and sticks of butter. Damn, I love mashed potatoes. Now I can't wait for Thanksgiving.

Oh, I do love a good pizza!  Can't get the authentic stuff here in NE Michigan, try as I might, though. While back East for the WUSV event, I indulged in real Philadelphia/NJ/New York pizzeria-style pizza, cheesesteaks, soft pretzels, panzarotti and hoagies for my meals and snacks every opportunity I had, because I won't get to enjoy those things again until the next time I get to go back East.

But that singular steak, that remains my gold standard.  I've had others that were close to it, but never as good as, even those I cooked myself.

Maybe I'd be better off having the pizza, though--maybe that steak can never be replicated, and I'll be disappointed in my last meal.  Even the worst Philly/NJ/NYC pizzeria pizza is still magnificent...so I think I might have to change my mind and go with that.

But you can keep the mashed potatoes. Can. Not. Stomach. Mashed.  It's a texture thing.Sick

Omg. I would get in a garden tub full of mashed potatoes with a spoon! Favorite part of Thanksgiving. That and football.

NE Michigan? Where? Alpena?

have you tried marker training?

did you look my address up, curious i was being funny, i think carlin got it?

by hexe on 20 November 2013 - 22:11

Chaz, that would be the nearest 'city', yes.

vk4gsd, you confuse me. I hate mashed potatoes. So why would I want to try marker training to make myself eat them? I'll simply have them baked, french fried, roasted, in potato salad [cold versions only--warm potato salad = vom], home fried, as hash browns, O'Brian'd, au gratined...just not mashed.  You'd find me an impossible bitch to train with a clicker or marker to do something I already abhor.

Yeah, besides the U.P., that part of the state is desolate.

hexe drive down to Mio and go to  Mio pizza.  Dave Utley owns it and makes a very good pizza.  In my mind it is similar to the OLD "Godfathers Pizza"  I say the old because they don't taste the same as they did 30 years ago.  And if you speak to Dave tell him Reggie McIntyre told you to come.  Dave is a great guy, a retired deputy from Mio.  I worked with him planting trees for the forest service.

edited to add that it was back in the spring of 80 or 81 that I worked with Dave.
