"it's hard to get people to sign up when they aren't feeling sick." ???
Oh, then the solution would bee make everyone sick ( poison the water?) then, by golly, they'll "sign up"....they must, they must, they must sign up...they must, they must, they must sign up ! LOL.

And how bout the IRS being in control of forced sign up? So our medical "care" is being enforced by the f'ing IRS? Way to go USA....

It would be cheaper, and probably better, if a free market decided without government intervention.
It would definitely be cheaper if not for insurance companies of that I'm certain.

Moons, I agree, it would be cheaper without insurance companies. Look what the charge is with insurance and the charge for the same services, with no insurance.....big, big difference.

Insurance is one thug, charging you for protection from another thug who is the brother of the first thug.

The thing about insurance, I am pretty sure it wasn't invented to become the vehicle by which healthcare is delivered. It is mere risk spreading. The free market exploded because of the idea, is how I remember it. I also don't think at its core, in terms of risk spreading, it is too different than what Bush wanted to do with SS when Wall Street appeared to have only one direction; Up. We all learned what happened with things that go "up", the hard way.

Now, this.

If I had a nickel for every time I hear this thing called Obama's "signature policy", as though the political victory (tenuous as it is) is the rubric by which we now measure such policy.  Is that what public service and representative gov't has been reduced too?  I wonder, if this thing completely falls flat on its face, if it will remain his "signature policy" -that which will ultimately define his administration in history.

Risk spreading?
I'm so glad we don't depend on the understanding of some people for survival.

Fix this?
Like Humpty Dumpty....this I gotta see.

There are simply too many things that need fixing in this world.........
