Okay. So what are you two crying about? Your team lost? LOL

A twenty thousand dollar pet. give me a break, I want to cry all the way to the bank.

No, actually... Giants won, I am quite happy about that...

It is not your money, so who cares? If you're wanting to start drama, you are really grasping at straws on this.

by beetree on 06 February 2012 - 03:02

Dawulf, I really have no problem with you. I just want you to know, riding can be so much more than what you are pouring out your hard earned sweat for.

I mean really, how many people here can say they have gone swimming with their horse in a river, stream or ocean. I am really curious.

Trust me, if I had the oppurtunity to go on a regular basis and do that kind of riding I would. We went to Yellowstone once and had the oppurtunity to take a couple horses back up this mountain in the middle of nowhere... up to a lake that was crystal clear - you could see all the way to the bottom. Horses don't have traction on that kind of terrain, we were slipping and sliding, walking, galloping, jumping streams... even found fresh bear tracks. My butt was sore for a week. And yeah, it rocked.

People will do with their money what they wish... whether that is galloping on the back of a $20,000 horse across the beach, like some sappy romance movie, or paying $15 for an hour long single file trail ride... what does it matter to you what makes people happy? I go just to ride... just because I like horses, and it is relaxing.

I don't have a horse. So no, I can't say that I have gone swimming with my horse. That and the fact that Nebraska is a bit of a drive to the ocean...

by beetree on 06 February 2012 - 04:02

Sappy no! Absolutely not, I mean the horse is swimming and you feel it, the moment there are no legs contacting earth. The churning, the force. Wonderful!

Dawulf, whew! Beetree has no problem with you, so it's ok that you have good quality animals even though they are, technically, just pets. When Chief comes home, perhaps you could come visit and go for a ride? He's not too wild (understatement, LOL!), but I can guarantee he's more fun than an old mare;-). And I won't make you clean a thing!

"Crying all the way to the bank" ???

So, basically, Beetree, among other things, you're bitter because I have a nice horse? laugh  Is that what this boils down to? Just trying to understand. You have no idea what another's life or situation is really like. What a statement!

by beetree on 06 February 2012 - 04:02

Jenni, you call me bitter, but I am not. I just laugh that you call your twenty thousand dollar horse a pet, and your dogs are never pets. Just a little odd. I love irony, of course you know that.

All this talk about function, pickiness and your fancy horse is being described by you as an ornament! It is hysterical for someone like me. Come on, you know me by now, I can only stick my head in the sand so long.

The lake I mentioned... was going to post the pic with me and the horse and the lake, but no one wants to see my ugly mug... and the horse was nothing compared to rest on this thread. Isn't it pretty though??

Careful making statements like that, Jen... you got rid of me once, you might not be so lucky the second time. LMAO!!!!

Beetree, you remind me of my Grandma. She used to ride her horse in rodeos, back in the day. She is the same way when I start talking about riding.

"Beetree, you remind me of my Grandma." ROFLMAO Dawulf, priceless!

Beetree, you're not interested in anything but trying to get under my skin with your bitterness. Your premise is asinine and like you, I cannot keep my head in the sand. I can't ignore faulty logic. I wish I could; typing this will waste more of my life than you deserve. Character flaw, I guess.

Anyway, I don't see how an honest description of what *I* use a particular animal for at this point has a damn thing to do with maintaining function in a breed designed for work.    On the contrary! That is what I bitch about when it comes to being picky about dogs. When you don't breed for a purpose/function/performance, you lose strength in all aspects quite quickly. Keeping an animal as a pet is not what's ruining the breeds. Breeding for inappropriate and/or single-purpose qualities is what's ruining the breed. Please enlighten me as to how I am impacting the breed negatively or what is so ironic about choosing the best of a particular "product". Sorry, but I'm picky across the board. Not sure why you think my horse would be any differently selected than my dogs. If you must know, I used the same criteria when selecting him as I would a dog, and did not buy him based on trends, but bought one which was likely to maintain the temperament, build, and ability to function as the Friesian horse was intended. You're not seeing the forest for the trees, here.

His fully-papered mother, Aranka fan Duerswald, took Grand Champion driving title as a 3yr old. She was used for driving, riding, known for her solid temperament, level head,, safety with small children, and the breeder of Chief is confined to a WHEELCHAIR and handles and drives these horses by himself. That tells me they have the temperament I need/want to be safe with children. He can hardly chance a schitzo when he's in a wheelchair. She is the epitome of a Friesian.

His sire speaks for himself. Look at the build of his sire (Teade) as compared to other, more recently approved stallions (and look at the deceased list following and compare to recently approved): http://www.usfriesianreferral.com/photolinks.htm  Look at how the build is changing- more refinement, which might be ok for what's trending now in terms of dressage, etc. but the Friesian was known as a horse who could do just about anything- again, we're losing the VERSATILITY! I don't think my choice of Chief is ironic at all. I think it's pretty predictable, if you know me at all (you don't).

You seem hung up on this $20k number. I have no idea where you got that figure from, but it's interesting to me that in all your posts on this matter, you have no interest in anything about him except money; you refer to a dollar amount, which I think is very telling about your motive in this and it has nothing to do with pointing out any irony about my animal selection process!

None of my dogs are my pets?! ALL my dogs are my pets!!! They must be able to function as intended, carry characteristics intended for the breed in both body and mind, and must be able to be VERSATILE enough to be able to adjust to different environments.  This is my typical rant! I'm actually shocked that you don't see how my choice of Boudewijn/Chief is EXACTLY on par!   When I buy something big,  (ie, not paper towels or light bulbs), I want the best possible representative of what that product is, whether it be a dog or a horse or a sweater or a car. Buy quality; it pays in the end. I want it to be capable of doing anything asked of it. Why get a Geo Metro when you can do all the things a Metro can do in a Lamborghini? Maybe a Metro is "good enough" but I'm not interested in good enough. Sorry- call me a snob or whatever else you like but I am honestly taken aback at your issue here and what business you think it is of yours if I am a pauper or a billionaire. I don't owe you money, so don't sweat my finances. I certainly have never considered yours.

BTW, since you're hung up on money, I spent more on Capri than I did on Chief, but neither were as much as my "commuter car", who I will now have a moment of silence to commemorate. ROFL  I can refer you to my accountant should you need further assistance.

LOL Whoa Nellie! Easy there girl.

I am much more interested in how you ride, Jenni. But you got a nice ad going, now.
