LadyFrost, well, there is good news and bad news. The GE repair guy was here bright and early. He will be back on Thurs, with a new compressor. That is the good news. The bad news is the joker who messed with it already has voided my warranty. I am going to have to get the first place to pay for the compressor, small claims perhaps? However, when the GE guy quoted the damages, they were considerably LESS than what the crooks were thinking of taking me for, or run a scam on GE, or who knows. The technician said what the guy's son did, bypassing stuff--was old school and no good.
But things are looking up in other areas. My computer fiasco? Well, I challenged the transaction and found out moments ago, from PayPal, I won my case! And the IRS sent my son's refund check, well whoop de doo!

Shelley,
I used to own Kenmore's, and we used to wish they'd break down just so there would be an excuse to get a new one! Back in the good ol' days. Now it is all computers on the inside, and really it is true, they just don't make 'em like they used to!

In the good ole days?
Our first washer was a ringer washer that we kept in an out building.
Anyone ever use one, or am I too old?
Bee,
you do have terrible luck getting things fixed.

hmm interesting....well at least the GE service was good...half the time that makes up for a lot of things if they treat you right...
well we have Samsung fridge with freezer on the bottom....we love everything Samsung EXCEPT fridge!
We found out that we have a slight issue: the fridge door doesn't always shut but thank God for alarm on the door, because when its not shut all the way for more than 2 min it starts beeping...at first i used to say "oh, good!" but after a while i realized of all the fridges we ever had NONE had door alarm...so they must have known that there is an issue with a door closing all the way so instead of fixing the door Samsung decided to put alarm on it so when door "suction" does not happen you get alerted and this happens 4-10 times a day. You don't realize how many times a day you open the fridge door until you have to get up off the couch and go push it shut......so....in the future phones, tablets, computers, TVs can be Samsung but appliances - hell no!

Moons, we had a wringer, but without the washing machine !
Clothes and sheets were washed either by hand or in the built-in
copper boiler in my gran's kitchen, then passed through the wringer
to get out the excess water (no spin or tumble driers then either )
then hung outside on the line.
As you are slightly older than me I believe I think this just
indicates we were poorer.
And in the more backward country ...

Nothing smells as good as cloths line dried in the open air.
We haven't had a line in a while, I hate drier sheets...LOL

My Volvos are so old and so high-mileage I have to keep 2-3 around just so I have one that runs when I want to go somewhere.

Yippee, Bee - so glad for you.
For once in my life all machinery seems to be ok - OMG, have I
just tempted fate, or what ?
Moons, I agree about the smell of washing aired outside
on a clothesline; the detergent + fresh air, mmmm.
Can't beat it. Fortunately I have been able to hang stuff outside
a few times recently as we have been having a warm spell here
too.

If I hung laundry outside here in the orchard it would come in dirtier than when I washed it, so much dust in the air in the orchards.
