...During my Psych. quarter it became obvious that every single individual has hints of mental illness in one form or another...It was a very humbling experience to study the diseases of the mind...

      Jim,
I think police officers and nurses have a reputation of losing their minds...lol...

You won't be alone in your straight jacket..;)....

Slamdunc, perhaps you are projecting again here and describing why you feel inclined to post so compulsively in response to anything I post, attempting to discount, detract, fog and undue?  Unfortuante that you cannot just live and let live and feel obligated to function like a control freak.  Why not just ignore posts you don't like, or counter them with reason and sound arguments, rather than subterfuge?   If you want to keep stirring the pot it's okay with me.  I have grad students doing my research for me and I have access to a great deal of databases you are unlikely to.

Hmmm, sounds sort of arrogant.

ggturner, think what you like. My point is that if the fab four want to keep stirring the pot, I'm game.

Preston,
Slamdunc, perhaps you are projecting again here and describing why you feel inclined to post so compulsively in response to anything I post, attempting to discount, detract, fog and undue? Unfortuante that you cannot just live and let live and feel obligated to function like a control freak. Why not just ignore posts you don't like, or counter them with reason and sound arguments, rather than subterfuge? If you want to keep stirring the pot it's okay with me.  Ok, here goes.  A little research shows your creeping tyranny and attempt at alphabet forum domination started with you slithering out of your hole on June 12th.  I know because some members asked you....The hearsay defense again.  In 39 days you had approximately 359 long winded ridiculous posts.

In that same time frame, I had 77 posts and some were actually about training and had nothing to do with you.  I don't think I am the compulsive one here.  You are absolutely correct and I agree 100 % that I have discounted the vast majority of your posts as pure BS.  I have shown your sources to be garbage and others have as well.  I am not a control freak, I just believe that someone has to stand up to your creeping tyranny and BS.  I can't ignore some one who boasts about being an educated person yet is so ignorant, misinformed and inaccurate.

It is impossible to win an internet argument with some one like you.  You have posted a couple of real events, some from 50 years ago.  You weave a grain of truth into your fantasies then expect an intelligent conversation or debate?  Their is no debating or arguing with you or anyone like you.  It is a "mute"  point.  Several members presented intelligent arguments and you back peddled to "well that source is not good, yes hearsay is not good or yes my UFO believing sources are suspect"......

Grad students doing this work............ROTFLMAO..............  Are they presenting this as a joke?  Is this a drama or satire class?  Or do they think you are a joke and are passing this ridiculous crap off to you.  You must accept responsibility for the crap you have posted, you can not try to pass the blame on grad students.   If you actually do teach something well that explains our current education crisis.  No wonder we are falling so far behind the rest of the world in literacy.

You have access to soem special database???? News flash, we can all access Wikipedia and Youtube.

Classic stuff right here, again you got me Pman............You are one funny guy

ggturner,

Social work, but I'm still undecided between clinical or macro.

by Preston on 22 July 2011 - 03:07

Slam, I never boasted about being an educated person.  Now you are resorting to personal attacks again, this is you usual MO here in response to my listing of difficult subjects and supporting evidence that just doesn't appear to fit into your head.

1-I am still waiting for you to discuss the finders doc, the operation northwoods docs, and public statements by Dr. Steve Pieczenik and Gen. Albert Stubbelbine.

2-I also listed references to hundreds of licensed architects who have examined the evidence and conclusions of NIST and are certain that the 911 twin towers and WTC building 7 were demoed with charges planned long before 9-11-01.

3-You refuse to discuss all the hundreds of retired intel, govt., militray that have gone public that 911 was a false flag attack and the official govt position is a lie.

4-You refuse to comment on Senator Max Cleland who quite the 911 commission because he said it was a joke.  And six other members of the commission have said that intel and other agencies refused to cooperate and give up records and docs subpoenoed.

5-You refuse to comment on how the BBC woman news reporter statwed 20 minutes before it happened on live TV that WTC7 had collapsed when the video showerd ity still standing behind her.  It was later found that the script she was sent was written by someone that forgot about daylight sacvings time and ordered her to recite the script one hour early.  This script waas written by intel and delivered to her coutesy of **-* from the UK.

So, let's start at the top of the list with #1 and see what you can prove. I only list arguments I can provide clear cut good, valid evidence for with these issues.  The other conspiracy theory comments I did not make such claims of accuracy on most.

What do any of those have to do with the topic at hand?

by Preston on 22 July 2011 - 03:07

Mudwick, I was responding to Slamdunc's assertions, that's what.  Why not asked why he/she was getting at to which I responded.

Returning to the topic at hand, post a single link to a peer-reviewed study supporting your claim of a genetic cause for personality disorders, that controls for the possibility that the parent's own personality disorder leads to abuse/neglect that causes the child's disorder.

You claim that ECT was disproven; you may be shocked to know it is still in use, and a very effective option for treatment-resistant depression.  I have a close personal friend who underwent ECT, and it saved her life.

No one has ever, in the history of science, claimed that anything is 100%.  Your statements to the contrary are just absurd.  Perhaps if you spent more time reading reliable sources, you'd know that.
Nearly all of the treatments that you cite as once being heralded as the magic cure and currently disproven, were not evidence-based treatments.  They were never subjected to rigerous peer review and research.  Both the therapy, and the neurology I'm citing are.

Your credibility is further strained when you claim that:

It is generally believed by informed, credentialed researchers that breakdown of the nuclear family and single parent homes produce more personality disorders.

Name the researchers, or cite the studies/published papers that list single-parent homes as a cause of any mental disorder, rather than a corellate.
Hint:  If the cited study does not list the *reason* only one parent is present, it doesn't effectively prove your point.  If the other parent is absent because of a past history of abuse, it is idiotic to assume that anything other than the abuse itself is the cause, since abuse corellates at a much higher rate for both single and nuclear families.

Then you make this bizarre claim:

A fair number of police officers and others in authority who start out near normal drift into the sociopathic type

Are you claiming that Anti-Social Personality Disorder can be developed in adulthood?

While you're gathering links to support your assorted claims, here are the links that support my statement that personality disorders are currently believed to be neurological in origin, and related to early trauma and/or neglect:
