Don't knock it, just because you don't know it.

Valk

I don't know who you're quoting, but it is comment for certain people on here to that paint with a broad brush.

Some examples:

If you train in sport, you work completely in prey

If you train in sport, your dog is a "prey monster" absent of defense

If you train in sport, or use food, toys, clickers, etc, there are no corrections....all positive.

To me, this can only be a few things. Is this just a lack of knowledge? Maybe. Is this a perceived belief just to fit someone's agenda? Maybe. Is this just a case of things passing one by, and they are just too set in their ways to grow and advance? Maybe.

Prager,
Do you think if you use the Premack principle of reinforcement, the dog is working for himself or the handler?

by joanro on 03 December 2018 - 14:12

And here, after nearly six decades of training dogs, there was a lable for what I was doing when I thought it was just " training".

Guess I should have gone to ' university' and gotten a psychology degree so's I'd have a lable for every single thing I do during the course of training my animals.

Vito Andolini:
I don't know who you're quoting

on the remark by Baerenfangs Erbe in regard of shaping dog's response to request for certain act.
i know, there are many way to teach the dog for particular task and people do have own preferences which one to choose. whatever, the basic foundation in all of them remains the same.
if food is used as reward, you do reward dog on successful execution of given task but not for dog's intention/attempt to perform that task. even worse, by interrupting dog in attempt to execute that task... by offering reward.
also was wrong in that video - the way of how food was been given to dog.

In BF's video, she was using successive approximation/shaping. First the dog looks at the drawer, click reward. Next dog touches drawer, click reward. Next dog touches tassel on drawer, click, reward. It is a form of indirect learning where the dog learns to figure out what behavior you are asking for on his own, so there was nothing incorrect in how the reinforce was presented.

How do you even remotely discuss marker/treat/clicker training if you don't know the first thing about it?
