I think we give uneducated cops way to much power
The argument has always been that there are times that without such discretionary "police powers", there are instances where preventable, sometimes violent crimes may not be averted. I don't disagree, but personally, I'm one who would much prefer to sacrifice a measure "security" to preserve freedom.

Mostly it's the idiot people , but it's also the abuse of rights.
If we are going to live in a police state then we might as well get used to it, after all there's a terrorist behind every corner.

TBH, I really couldn't care less if the guy next door wants to snort his whole paycheck or his life savings for that matter, because it's none of my business. How many stops on "Cops" are for drug offenses, and not the king-pin sort? It pisses my wife off so much she won't even watch the show. Waste of time and tax payer dollars.

Some of it is so hilarious though.....and some of it is disturbing as well.
I did have an interesting time once with a county deputy who wanted to take temporary custody of my class three weapon, after i informed him of his jurisdictional limitations he had to call it in to find out I was correct.
i think the majority of them who express knowledge of the laws are winging it, banking that their authority will carry them through as most citizens are equally ignorant of their rights and the law.
But who wants to argue with a man wearing a badge and holding a gun.
Right or wrong your still gonna go down and iron out the details later after much trouble and expense, possibly an injury to boot.
I always remember, yes sir, no sir, or keep you mouth shut, never volunteer in formation.

I think the new preferred recruit is ex-military.

the big boys are protected, the little guys are expendable for public consumption.

The small guy is easy because he can't fight because of $$$, the big guy is going to fight like hell. The little guy is going to get a public defender and the public defender is going to do everything in his power to talk his client into taking whatever deal the prosecution offers.
The cops want money it is the bottom line in any organization and most drug money is used by the local cops to buy all kinds of goodies that their budgets will not allow. The cops in my area are lost when it comes to the latest changes to the laws, either that or they act dumber than they look. Your choice.

You need to decide if you want to be just one of the guys or the ruler supreme.
You can't have it both ways.
How would you prefer to be addressed?
At one time I knew some great cops, these days I've run into many more who aren't great.
i can't bash cops anymore than any other human, 9 of 10 applies across the board.
The system, the politicians, law makers, the courts, we all are ultimately responsible for letting it happen.
Too many good people have done nothing.
Seems like it's getting worst, at least in this country.
Dependency,
everyone want's someone else to make it all better.
Like children.
