For some reason I can never make a link and how I got the title I did and this is the actual title. One only ones but not me. LOL

Oh Lady that is awesome and thank you for spelling his name right. I visited his home in Monterrey and I felt so privaleged--that was years and years ago--I went there mostly on 66--does that tell you how long ago? LOL...............

I love Grisham also--a lot of his latest stuff I've not kept up on much but did read the Bretheren not long ago. I really liked it. Also the true story he wrote about the Innocent Man or something like that? That was just 35 miles or from here. It was an awesome read and so true to the area and the people.

If you are into historical fiction, and stimulating mysteries, try Ellis Peters' Brother Cadfael series . . 20 volumes in all, available in paperback.

Each of the Brother Cadfael mysteries stands alone as a complete story, but I advise reading them in sequence, as each major character has a storyline that develops as the series unfolds.  Masterpiece Theatre's Mystery! series featured some of these mysteries, they are very engaging!  Enjoy!

Another book that has staying power with me, that I just loved for the difficult character as its namesake, is Olive Kitteridge, by Elizabeth Strout. It is actually a compilation of characters and 13 stories in which Olive, is a seventh grade math teacher set in a typical small coastal town in Maine, and is the thread that ties them all together. Olive is not exactly likable. And we find ourselves too, shaking our heads at the familiarity of her imperfections, at the same time we grow to understand her, even if we don't like her.

There is one scene I never forget. I think I experienced a somewhat similar event, once, lol. Olive does not approve of her son's choice of wife. She makes excuses to go into their bedroom to rest, and while in there, goes through the wive's sweater drawer, takes a black marker and ruins a sweater with it, and puts it back in the drawer. She does this, justifying her action saying, "No one should be that happy." She reasons that the sweater will be found and the owner will be perplexed, her confidence undermined by being unsure of how or who could do such a thing.

If you like Patricia Briggs then you might enjoy Faith Hunter's Jane Yellowrock series (it's excellent!) and both series by Ilona Andrews. My favourite series is the Undead Series (Queen Betsy) by Mary Janice Davidson- hands down the most hilarious thing that I've ever read. I look forward to each new book in the series with unwavering anticipation.

OK you guys I just finished one heck of a read. The book is called A Dry Spell and it is authored by Susie Moloney..............Basically a little older Stephen King........quick synopis--this town hasn't had rain in 4 yrs--it is set in ND--they have a new banker who is on everyone's shit list cause she is having to do foreclosures. So she hires a rainman to make it rain. And it gets really into it after that. Won't tell anymore cause you need to read it by yourself. I know I am not reading all the new books--these are older--this one is 1997--but somehow I missed it back when I had to have all the new books. Now I am just going to the library and buying 25 cent books and they are older but I have sure found some good reads.
I now have started a Lisa Jackson mystery--it's 2007--it's called Absolute Fear--her ex boyfriend is a serial killer--he has already triedto kill her once. I'm only about 45 pages into it and it is a damn damn good read.

@GSDNewbie - If don't mind your heroines very dark and morally flexible (the main character is a retired assassin) then you may enjoy Jennifer Estep's Elemental Assassin series. It's one of my favourites!
