Why don't you guys us what YOU would do to try to keep guns out of the hands of looney tunes.

Concentrate on the loony toons.
Blitzen,
You have to think about the mentally ill and families dealing with mentally ill, today they are still kept hidden instead of properly cared for, institutionalized if need be.
You could no more keep someone away from a weapon of anykind who was intent on causing harm, than you can keep them out of the hands of criminals.
So you deal with the criminal, we need changes in this area badly, and you deal with mental illness, for everyones sake.
We need many changes, but what has been suggested is a mistake.

Blitzen,
I'll answer you question with another question.
What cause people to commit Mass Murder?

Great answer, NInja, very thoughtful indeed. In other words you have no suggestions for keeping guns out of the hands of looney tunes?
by Blitzen on 26 January 2013 - 14:01
That would certainly help, Moons.

by Ninja181 on 26 January 2013 - 16:01
No Blitzen, I want you to think outside the box.
And you just did on the other thread with the comment about most Mass Murders are committed by white males.

Ninja, stats show that the majority of mass murderers are males. I didn't make that up. This is an interesting link to the demographics of mass murders and serial killers.
BTW I don't disagee with you that violent video games can have bad effects on certain individuals. I think coupled with watching violent films, those videos can created a lack of sensitivity to violence in some. I cringed when I saw the title of Stalone's latest film, Bullet to the Head. Ugh!! I honestly don't know what we should do to try to prevent another Newtown, but we need to try something.

This is the last pararagraph from the above link. I think it says a lot.
The first thing not to do, is to jump to a conclusion based on politics, a knee jerk reaction, a pet theory or your views about guns and/or gun control. The only logical conclusion at this point is that the single most important preventative measure is the early recognition and treatment of severe mental illness in general, and psychosis in particular. That coupled with the importance of keeping a psychiatric patient off alcohol and drugs is all we have until further research is completed.

Yeah, overall it was a prettty darned good article. It showed me a different take on the situation. I guess the bottom line is there is no fast and easy fix and that's the real tragedy.
