Refuse to believe I'm alone in that.

Folks can keep their doors locked and have a good security evaluation done of their home and premises. Cut back bushes, add night lighting, ask help from local police depts, most have free evaluations for their residents, get a burglar alarm, set up cameras connected to internet so you can access home situation any time from work or elsewhere. Set up a community, neighborhood watch and get to know your neighbors.
Any community law enforcement officer who specializes in reducing neighborhood break-ins will tell you any dog that barks is a great deterrent, but the large breeds like GSD, Doberman, Rottweiler, Schnauzer, Poodle, Airdale etc. can be most potent home defenders. Every prison has numerous stories floating around between inmates of burglars who have experienced a full bite and gone into shock. Many dogs especially herding dogs can be potent home defenders.
Guns are not for everyone and if one makes such a serious decision to own them, most states require keeping them locked when not under personal control. Folks should have proper training and not just a quickie course, but serious training. In a city not too far from my city we have a well known former Navy Seal who runs an excellent training facility, Sealed Mindset. Folks who make use of this range across a wide spectrum of occupation, class, education and both men and women and surprisingly, a lot of women. Courses like this are increasingly available and now make home defense reasonable for old folks and both men and women.

The people of America are speaking with their gun purchases as never before. Here is their response to Obama and Feinstein's efforts so far.

It was also my impression that the AR was found in the trunk of the car after the fact. I believe that was in the very first report? That
he had fired upon the students with pistols.
The media has twisted the story into what will suit.
I rarely comment on OT posts, so I will leave it at this, what you post does not fall on deaf ears. Much of what has been posted falls right in
line with what our family believes to be closest to the truth.

http://www.cnn.com/2012/12/18/us/connecticut-lanza-guns/index.html
Adam Lanza brought three weapons inside Sandy Hook Elementary school on December 14 and left a fourth in his car, police said. Those weapons were a Bushmaster AR-15 rifle and two handguns -- a Glock 10 mm and a Sig Sauer 9 mm.
In the car he left a shotgun, about which police have offered no details. Lanza used one of the handguns to take his own life, although police haven't said whether the gun was the Glock or the Sig Sauer.
