There has always been violence, there will always be violence, humans are violent creatures by nature.
What has been lost is when and where to use violence, the games don't teach that there are two sides to violence.
All they teach is that it is better to give than receive.
Where are the parents?
What in the hell has happened to people that has turned them into idiots?
How can children know anything if they are raised by idiots?
A video game is no substitute for a real childhood or intelligent parents.

I recently watched this movie on TV. I thought it was interesting. It's thought provoking.

I agree with Moons,
And if some nut-kid decides to test his game expertise in school, who should blame who?
Instinct to kill amplifies that ability with such games.

Hope this won't be taken the wrong way, but I could see how these video games could be very entertaining. I am only judging from what I see in the trailers mind you. I am not condoning all the content in these games, but the sane/average person will play these games and NOT go and kill a room of helpless little children;;
On the other hand a person with mental health issues could indeed get encouraged by these types of games, but these games are NEW and these random shootings have been around a while...
Should society live according to the exception or the rule??..That is the question IMO..
Did anyone see the movie of the trailer I posted above??..

BE, why don't you take a course in comprehension before you go hog wild with a new cause?
Yes, these types of games ARE NOT innocently doing nothing to some people's psyche. You can all be in denial all you want.

I agree that violent video games themselves aren't going to create serial killers. However, my concern is that all this continued exposure to them, violent movies, internet sites, etc, things that glorify violence is desensitizing many to that violence. I just saw a trialer for a new film, "A Bullet in the Head", can't remember the star, someone well known. Moons will know. A few nights ago we watched one of the worst films I've ever seen in my life," Looper" with Bruce Willis. In the first 10 minutes there had to have been 5, 6 executions by "Loopers" who were paid assassins. I don't call that entertainment and would never allow a kid under 16 to look at such films or to play these violent video games period.
NO, I don't expect every kid to want to only see Mary Poppins and Cinderella, but come on parents, can't you do better for your kids than buying them crap like this? What do you expect a kid to learn from playing these ugly games? You brought them into the world, now raise them right. If you enjoy playing them, do it when they're not around.

Letting your kids play a game like this doesn't make someone a bad parent. Being a bad parent makes you a bad parent.
You can watch violence and not be violent, you can learn to hunt, shoot, kill, and process animals, and still have compassion and love. You can own a gun and not be a killer, you can do all sorts of things and not become the devil.

FWIW, I have quite the reputation with family and friends of being the "TV/Movie Police"...I DO NOT let my children watch rated R movies of any type and to be honest they watch very few PG 13 movies either,,``lol yep you can imagine how popular I am with everyone over here...lol...Too Bad!!..
I am more strict about sexual content then I am about violence to be honest, but my children have been sheltered; not ignorant of both sexual and violent content...My ten year old son just got Modern Warfare 3 and that is about as extreme as I am personally comfortable with at his age,,
As far as the psyche of the average human being affected by these games I agree with Blitzen in that I feel it desensitizes people to killing ...but..
...On the other hand becoming desensitized is A LOT different then actually becoming "a killer"...because of this type of video/movies,,,

Sorry,
no, I don't know.
I never had any problems raising my two son's and had no age limitations on when they could do something I did not find acceptable including Internet access.
You talk to your children and you listen to them with equal attention, always being open and honest, never trying to hide the ugly side of life but rather explaining it to them.
Hollywood?
Talk about being manipulated.
I've been witness to the manipulation ever since I was a child myself, from theater and television, books, magazines, and newspapers also but not with as much impact as the visual media.
Now video games.
I see it, why is it others do not.
We have been teaching our children to fight a proxy war on anyone using remote robotic technology.
Who's idea was that I wonder.
When you figure it out, then you'll know many things.
