Hi Ruger1,
It was a response to your post, not to you as an individual.

These are the conditions one excepts to believe in the Christian God, obey or else.
One of many issues I have with Gods.

Nothing personal.

Carrie does a great job of this song.
I have a hard time getting through the second verse without choking up. This song and Amazing Grace sum it up for me.  It is not about rules.

@Ruger1: I loved your second last post Deanna, so true.

I remember the hymn from church, they always passed the collection plate as it was sung.

Moons... I did not take it personally...: )

Funny how folks can see things so differently though, I do not feel it is an "obey or else", but an act of mercy, love and kindness from God to me...: )

As a mother, I have many expectations for my children with regard to their behavior ect..If I expect my son to keep his hands off his sisters in a rough way, I make my expectations very clear. I do this because I love my son and I do not take pleasure in having to discipline him. However, once I have clearly communicated my expectations to him, he will have to pay the consequences for his neglect of my expectation. Being his mother, I have been given authority over him to raise him and love him and this includes discipline too...

Being in a place of submission is very very difficult, I see this in my children and in my own life...It really goes against the grain of our human nature IMO...But, it is part of life nonetheless...We are always in every aspect of life under the authority of another from the moment we are born to the day we die and beyond...

About "free will"...Even prisoners have a measure of free will within the parameters of their cell walls. Likewise, the human race has "free will" within the parameters that God has set before them..IMO free will is not necessarily free, but free within it's boundaries....

Ruger1,
Would you leave your children unattended, at the mercy of strangers and their influences?
And then upon your return punish them for their actions?
Yes prisoners in prison do have a few choices, so did slaves in a sense, as long as master approves.
At some point one decides is life worth living in bondage, or is life worth fighting for even to the death?

Do you protect your children from harm?
I suspect you do.
I discipline my children, I also nurture them and teach them, I protect them from harm.
Being a father never ends once you begin.
You do not leave them to fend for themselves with a few rules to obey and see what happens.
Instead you prepare them for life as best you can and when they mature you trust they make the right choices, you do not punish them for the choices they make, you love them and support them throughout their lives.

The thought of everlasting life in the service of another does not appeal to me.

Moons, I answer yes, to all your questions...: )

I am not motivated out of fear, but of out of gratitude and love towards God. I do however, have a healthy reverence for Him as God...I can not think of one single way in which God has been unfair or unkind to me..In every way God has provided me with everything I need to fulfill all that He requires of my life in a kind, patient, and merciful way...The thought of everlasting life in the service of anyone, but God, would not appeal to me either....God is not man!!...

Ruger1,
this is you, and I understand, but what of others who do suffer, who's lives are not as nice as your own?
Is this another of Gods mysteries?
Some have more to be thankful for than others.
This was never about either or, quite frankly I do not know what Shtal expects from this thread.
You will keep your faith regardless and that's as it should be.

Yet,
If a being should come to earth claiming to be God, a being far superior to us in everyway, who knows us well, how would you determine it is really the God of your faith?
What if there were more than one?
Are you allowed to question a God?
And if you are unsure do you still submit?

What if he arrives in a machine, as opposed to a chariot of fire, or he is not in human form?
What is it about this being that convinces you he is your God?
The Miracle, which miracle would it take?

This being offers to take care of your every need, to provide for you, all you have to do is obey his rules and he won't send you to a terrible fate.
Hasn't man already done this time and time again to his own?
It is conquest, slavery, and is nothing new.
His mercy depends on your service, and without your service you receive his wrath.

And finally, what of the beliefs of others, are they all condemned?
What makes one more right than the other?
War, conquest, forced beliefs, this is the history of some religions and it goes on to this very day.

We are all the same, made from the same stuff, yet we still kill each other over these beliefs that contradict each other.
How is this ever right?

So many questions, so much mystery, so many different views, so much violence and so much deception.

This is my last thought on the matter, as the thread seems to have no real purpose.

I have no problem with anyones beliefs, I do however take issue with people who are radicalized such as gouda.
I have a problem with hate mongers also, those who blame others for their misfortunes, and anyone who thinks strapping a bomb to their chest in the name of their god to kill others is a path to heaven.

I believe we are all the same and should treat each other as such.

Anyway,
I will wait for the next thread of interest, I am finished with this.

Moons.
