Again, defender doesn't stop the virus from being installed it can't because Microsoft is to lazy to program it to block on the go and one more thing I backup and do all the other things but unless you use a lot of DVDs - you can still run into problems if your backup drive crashes. It is always best to have 2 copies of everything. Just happened to me my hard drive I store back ups and pics on crashed but I had a back up of the back up and instead of losing 50 gig of pics I lost nothing.

I really got myself in some deep doo-doo when I tried to download some music recently. The download advertised itself as 100% secure. Hahaha!  Roll eyes

Not going to fall for that ever again! From now on, I get my music from CDs, or trusted friends. Or if I want something that's guaranteed not to muck with my computer, I have a large collection of vinyl, and cassette tapes, along with the antiquated technology needed to play them. (Thanks to the untimely demise of a friend in a car accident 2 years ago, I was able to purchase his turntable, tape deck, speakers and 5 disc CD player for next to nothing.)

SysRestore got me out of that one, but I was having problems with the Java Update before that. Can't recall exactly when it started, and I definitely don't remember clicking on any questionable links. Apparently, it can get in through your search engine, without you having to do anything stupid to let it in.

I'm sorry GSD,
but it's not called defender anymore.....and yes it has realtime protection.

And yeah a virus needs a way in to get past the fire wall, you open a door without even knowing it sometimes.

I have a lot of LP's too Sunsilver, can't seem to let them go.
Most of the music I listen too online is streaming, I don't download it.
I may still have Itunes but I haven't used it in a long time.

Well if it has real time then it can't catch anything because zone alarm is always first to warn me of a problem. Funny you have problems with google things but microsoft is okay.
