hexe,
my fence charger would do a bit more than give a mild shock I'm afraid, but like I said you'd have to keep your own animals out of it as well.

Erin,
Around here if your neighbors dogs kill anything you first ask them to pay for it, then if it continues you shoot the offending dogs.

I told you the story about eggs hatching in the garbage can didn't I?
Tough little buggers.

I've been worried my dog thinks he's a chicken.. Or the chickens think they are dogs!!

by beetree on 05 November 2013 - 22:11

If he starts clucking.... then be worried! Hey why isn't he guarding all the chickens from those trespassing killer dogs? Maybe he does think he's a chicken! LOL

Well one of these trespassing dogs has been an in heat female, so I've been keeping him inside at night, so he won't wander off.. When he is out, he keeps them ran off the chickens.. But you know, when a woman shows a little interest to some men, they lose their minds LOL.. Since I've had him back out, haven't lost any..
He does eat the chicken feed!! I think he might need species reassignment surgery  :/  Silly mutt...

No but you might check him for worms...regularly.
Comes from being that close to the livestock, chickens especially.
You can worm your chickens too periodically, Peprazine I think, something like that, confine them when you do and clean everything up afterwards, it doesn't actually kill them, just passes them through.

All my mutts are on that heart worm preventive, get it once a month, it's Ivermectin, it kills bunch different worms, then they get wormed about every 2 months with safeguard, it's horse wormer, fendbendazole for 3 days in a row.. They package it different for dogs, but it's same meds, just way more expensive.. I can get the tube for a horse for $8, and does all the dogs.  The chickens get some stuff you put in their water, can't think of it off top my head. Then the nags get wormed with few different types wormer 3 times a year.. I spend small fortune in wormers LOL.. Oh yea the goats get that safeguard also, I'm not too stringent on their schedule, just when I think of it.
These mutts also eat all kinds dead stuff they find and poop.. They love poop.. I'm gonna make and market horse doo doo treats.. Guaranteed dogs will love it!!! LOL

Sounds like you got it covered..lol
I used to use the Strongid paste horse wormer but it doesn't get everything.

I stopped giving broad spectrum wormers in favor of testing on the dogs, now that we've had frost it's time for that here.

Yeah that's the stuff in the water for chickens..

I think your dog likes his chickens......looks happy.

Typical look of goofiness on his face LOL.. He is a very good natured, happy guy.. Not the sharpest tool in the shed, but loyal and obedient.. I can take him to the park and have 20 kids swarm him, hanging on him, step on him, drag him around and he will just sit there with that goofy look on his face. Like he's not smart enough to realize it's torture and he should get away.. hahaha
