You don't want to block these things, you want to remove them....
How long has this been going on Sunsilver, the redirects?

Try zone alarm trial it is pretty good at detecting and getting rid of root kits. Or open a case at malwarebytes these folks can help you get rid of this virus.

You can also try this program, it was recommended by bleepingcomputer.com http://www.gmer.net/

No matter how much salt you pour on a birds tail it will still fly away.

Sunsilver,
I am sorry, you need to open a case at bleepingcomputer.com and not malwarebytes.
Moons,
Have any real suggestions for Sunsliver or are you just going to throw out one-liners and cute little grade school saying?

She could go back to a restore point before the problems started.
And get rid of all the crap programs.
Or as some people do, use the back up sets they were supposed to make when the first purchased their computers.
Of course you'd have to run updates again and that could be a lot depending.
Anything besides downloading more crap.
One of my local computer stores is a radio shack, for $25 they will perform this task for those who do not know anything about computers.
Everyone should have backup disks for their personal files, and at least a system backup on a disk.

lol, most restore points don't go back that far and a lot of times these viruses mess up the restore points and render them useless. Sure a re-install is great except spending hours on top of hours re-installing drivers and programs.
Bleeping computer is one of the best resources for removing viruses, rootkits, malware, spyware and other garbage.
Moons,
Windows defender cannot detect a virus as it happens, you must run a scan to detect it, great job Microsoft - most of the best virus scanners can detect these viruses on the fly meaning the virus doesn't sit on your computer for hours or days until you decide to run a scan or schedule a scan. Oh and windows defender probably would not have found this root kit.

As I posted above, this rootkit is very, very hard to detect. Malwarebytes has a beta program specifically for rootkits. I ran that scan and it came up clean.
I have run the GMERS scan, and sent the results to the creator of the program. He/she has programmed it to specifically find rootkits that are able to mask themselves.
Let's see what that turns up.
And no, it's highly doubtful doing a system restore is going to fix THIS problem, though I have used it successfully in the past to get rid of problems.

Bleepingcomputer is really good and they might be able to help if not you might have to do a complete re-install, ugh. At least you found it and know what the problem is. Good luck and let us know the outcome.

Defender serves me well enough, and I do update and scan often.
Some viruses cannot be removed without a total disk wipe and a complete reload.
It really does help to know what NOT to click on and how to get out of a spot when you realize your in deep shit.
You let them in, you open a door, that's how it works.
Perhaps it's Annonymous...................lol
