Don't know if it's any help, but I use IE9 on my gov't laptop [have no choice there], running Windows 7 Enterprise edition; on my personal desktop, I'm still using XP Service Pack 3 and use Firefox exclusively. Nary a problem on the desktop, but now that Moons and Blitzen have mentioned it, I DO get unexpected audio ads that start playing from time to time with the laptop when I've got PDB opened in a tab--couldn't figure out where they were coming from, and since I generally have the speakers turned off on the laptop I can't really say exactly how often they occur.  Haven't had any problems recently with posting to the forums or sending/receiving PMs, however.

And you won't because you use Firefox. The audio ads are what they are, ads. A lot of advertisers use audio ads to draw attention to their ads. It is what it is. Oli has over the years made changes to the ads but some of the ads served up by google have audio and that might be a small inconvenience to have this site remain a free site.

I have contacted Oli to take another look at things but I am not sure how much more he can do.

Anyone having problems with IE and this site might want to do a search on how to clear their cache and try to clear your cache now that Oli has updated the editor software. Not sure if this will make a difference but it sure is worth a try.

Or try Firefox so you can use interactive pedigrees, those pedigrees alone make it worthwhile to at least give Firefox a try.

Anyone having problems please press F12 which enables the Javascript console and report any errors you are having. Oli says he needs this info to help track down what is going on.

P.S.
Spell check does not work like it used to, when word is underlined and you click on it the only option is <paste>. Sure i can lounge spell check and it will pick things up that way, so its not that big of deal but if we are talking about issues thats the only one i got.

spell check changed some time back and I can't use it anymore either, plus it says things are spelled wrong when they are not sometimes....lol

Thank you, GSD Admin! I will give that a try.

Last night, I tried a fix I found online, and all it did was mess up my settings, as I had to erase a lot of stuff (personal settings, passwords, cache, etc.) Getting things back the way the were was a real PITA. Facebook was the worst. It thought I was posting from a new computer, and demanded I identify a number of my Facebook friends from pictures. Now, most of my FB friends are people I know online, and have never met in person. How many of YOUR online friends could YOU identify from photos?

I was afraid I was going to be locked out of my account for good!  Needless to say, I decided not to post that particular fix here for others to try.

And then, of course, this morning, the little perisher was baaaack, even worse than before! Angry Smile

My computer has Windows 7 Professional edition, and I have the latest version of Java installed (version 7, build 45). My browser is IE 10.

Last night, I cleared my Java cache, which contained info that might not have been deleted during an uninstall/reinstall, then deleted and reinstalled Java. I have not had the Java redirect happen today (not YET, anyway!) but another bit of malware is still alive and well.  Sad Smile   It is trying to redirect me to: http://cldlr.com/?a=11453&c=56567&s1=&s2=rmx  This did happen a time or two before I cleared the cache, but the Java redirect was much more common.

I wonder if there is any way I can block a redirect like this? I have Malwarebytes installed, and it keeps the redirect from actually happening, and gives me a warning, but there must be SOME way I can prevent my browser from being hijacked like this. Often, when I hit the 'back' button to return to PDB, then again try to go to the page I want to view, I get redirected again.

Edit: Okay, the Java redirect is still active!  (Tears out hair....) It just tried to redirect me to http://www.java-updating-now.com

Your best bet might be to open a case at malwarebytes and have one of their pros walk you through getting rid of these nasty pests. Did you buy malwarebytes because that will give you protection on the fly. There is also another little program that does good on blocking hijacks and it is called winpatrol.

I did not buy Malwarebytes. It's on a free trial.

Further investigation shows it's a very nasty, sneaky rootkit that can get in through your search engine. Removing it is something you should only attempt if you're an expert:

http://blog.mitechmate.com/remove-get-new-java-comindex-phpdv1ybrant-popup-virus-fake-java-update-removal/

Why Did My Antivirus Program Fail to Remove get-new-java.com/index.php?dv1=Ybrant fake Java Update?

get-new-java.com/index.php?dv1=Ybrant was created with advanced rootkit technology which helps its codes bypass firewall and antispyware, and it is able to change its codes’ name and path on the compromised PC constantly, thus your antispyware could hardly keep up to detect and remove all the malicious codes. Therefore, we have to use the effective manual solution that could always help we remove stubborn virus like get-new-java.com/index.php?dv1=Ybrant malware.

I am not good at fixing PC, is it risky for me to remove get-new-java.com/index.php?dv1=Ybrant manually?

If you are not a computer expert, it will be very risky to complete the get-new-java.com/index.php?dv1=Ybrant manual removal process. You have to assure that you are equipped with expert-level knowledge and skills on PC before you do anything on the infected system. If you are not experienced enough on manually removing a virus, please get Professional PC Support to help you.

Wow, I got bigger problems than I thought! It won't even let me access the Malwarebytes website! I get redirected!  What Smile

Could someone else who's infected see if the same thing happens to them? Thanks!

And I'd like to add I don't really trust the above website. I've never heard of them, and they push their online chat service a bit too much.
