I have 2 chickens that must have giant asses because they lay really big eggs LOL.. They are Black Astrolops.. I'm sure I'm spelling all the breeds wrong LOL.. I get a variety of shapes and colors.

I wash them with just water..I give a lot to neighbors and relatives of my husband, so I don't keep many in fridge.. I guess just habit of keeping them in fridge, I know fresh eggs can keep in cool room for awhile.. I take the really big eggs or ones with cool colors and put them in the 'bator, just to see what I get LOL.. The chickens wander all over the pasture and I give chickens away too, it's just a fun hobby for me, I guess.. I tell my husband it's better than if I was into shopping for shoes!!

I know the breed so don't worry about spelling..mine sucks too..lol
The variety is kinda why I stick to certain breeds though, consistent size color and shape helps when selling eggs, we always got top dollar and the eggs were never over two days from nest to sale.
I had Giant Chinese Langshans also layed large eggs but not as reliable as standard heavy breeds.
Have bantams also but mostly just to look at.
When you love animals you pretty much love them all.
I had a pet Silver Pheasant who used to follow me during feeding just to get treats..lol

Eggs have a protective natural coating that washing removes is why I never wash them, maybe before using but not for storage.

Well that makes sense about the washing then.. I didn't know that. Yea, I can see if you were selling them you'd want uniformity in size, color.. I like to give people the green eggs, they always trip out.. I want some more Americanuas, I might order some from a hatchery, and some Polish Crested.. I like those too LOL.. Anything different

I would always order straight run from two different hatcheries for better breeding and select the best of each, eat the rest.
if I bought everything that I liked I'd be in deep chicken shit....LOL
Lotsa handsome breeds but most are not great producers.
i always had variety but in different things, peafowl, turkeys, pheasant, not just the chickens.
You would have loved a visit here ten years ago..lol

So I am on guard tonight, got the 22 loaded and sighted in, waiting by the back door.. Lost yet another chicken this a.m.. I know it has to be a certain pack of little dogs, since it seems that every time I see one around my yard, a chicken ends up dead, or feathers everywhere.. Also when a wild animal gets a bird, it just disappears.. What ever is doing this is leaving the bird, not eaten at all, just dead and feathers pulled out.. Pisses me off these dumb asses do not care enough about their "pets" to keep them up, after repeated requests.. UUUGGGGHHHHH....

I agree. Time for some out-crossing.
