My dogs registered AKC name is taken on this Pedigree Database. It will not let me register my dog here... what can I do to still register him? Do they really only allow one dog with the same registered name? To me it would seem like as long as the registered number was different it really shouldn't matter. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas for me? Thanks!

How would it be possible to tell which dog is which if duplicate names are allowed. This is why it is so important for members to include the date of birth and registration number. Please check to be certain that the dog on the database is not your dog, perhaps entered by the breeder.
There are many, many dogs in the same situation. In order to distinguish a dog with a duplicate name, we add the year of birth in parentheses to the name. MY AKC DOG (2015). This should only be done if the name is already in the PDB database. If you need help, please contact me.

I know it is not my dog b/c my dog is only a 13 week old puppy and the other dog was registered a few years ago. Also, the pedigree doesn't match and I named my dog and registered him to AKC myself. Is it possible to still enter him here with his AKC registered name or do I now need to alter it somehow?

Suggest read your suggestion and understood it more clearly the second time. You're suggestiong put his date of birth in parentheses with the name. Didn't catch that the first time.

If the name is already used - you can put his DOB behind the name in parentheses. So, yes it then becomes possible to register him here. Example - lots of people name their dogs Buddy if you had 300 pages of Buddy, how many pages do you want to look through to try and find your Buddy. The AKC will also add your last name or numbers behind a dogs name if it is a common name. Our system searches for a dogs name and not his number or DOB so we require each dog in a breed have a different name.

Okay great. Got that figured out. I appreciate your assistance with it. Now another question, if my dogs sire and dam are not registered here how can I enter grandsire and all in myself? I know some are registered here and want to link them to my dog.

What I did was I registered the sire and dam of my dog individually and then registered my dog once they were registered here.
