I agree with you as astrovan. Did you see the littermate video clip as a two year old in the last post on previous page? That one is more representative of the litter. The one in question was not representative of what came from the litter. Also she is much better looking than that picture portrays. Full of energy and fast enough that she caught a wild cotton tail ...all she got hold of was the tail which came off and she spit it out. But the fact that she was capable of making the twists and turns and excelerations to catch a wild rabbit scared up in the middle of a fenced field is extraordinary for a gsd. When the rabbit's tail was bitten off the tailless rabbit was able to run to the fence and squeeze through, ending the chase. The 'sable bitch' continued to search the fence line where rabbit escaped and gazed longingly into the woods where the lucky rabbit retreated. ( She spit the little white tail out-- evidence of her toothy contact with the rabbit)

Here is a sixteen week old female pup out of a littermate to " that sable bitch". Breeding is all about selection. Which do you elminate from breeding to those selected from the same litter.

Good strengths in that pup. Nice bone strong head good weight nice size. Looks a Good quality pup. Imo

My 6 month old dogs are thicker then that, and i don t even think the one next to her is a very good representative of the DDR dogs, either then or now

i guess people by innertia prefer thing they have used to.
the true original DDR dogs has disappeared from view 30 years ago and majority of western GSD aficionados in fact never seen them at all and build their opinion on the base of present substandart immitation of former DDR dogs.

A thought: IF the 'DDR' type was deliberately bred to be that ... shall we be polite and call it 'wiry' ? ... then it clearly bore no comparison to the early GSDs in the breed

for sure GSDs in DDR wasn't bred to be balls or rabbits chasers :)
since the time of von Stephanitz, breed went into direction of guard/protector dog and accordingly growed up enough of own substance to become reliable man stopper.
look at fenotype inheritance of these girls, spread over 3 generations.

valik, naturally i have not seen many, actually any of the original DDR dogs. I m old, but not that old. I don t know how many you have met either in person. But they have this little thing called a camera, some actually take movies as well. And along with this little interest some people have, they utilize the photos and video clips those that did actually see these dogs used and made available to anyone interested enough to actually do a little, or a lot of research on any number of topics of interest to them.
Actually, there several people here that has researched what interests them, Anyone with a genuine interest in the breed have researched the breed extensively Given there is no better way to gain knowledge than hands on, up close and personal, but if reading and viewing things you cannot experience first hand has no educational value, then millions of people are wasting their time attending lasses for the purpose of learning ,

Good thing those gsd pictured would not have the preditor drives to chase a wild rabbit that jumps up under their nose, because they don't look like they could catch a three legged rabbit in a crawl, lol. If they had to stop a man, he better be standing still for them to catch him. Too clunky for any work.

Mass is a very desirable physical attribute for a dog tasked with physical apprehension. Combined with the rare ability to stay committed to a deep, powerful, ever increasing pressure grip, very few criminals last more than 10-15 seconds before they decide at that point in their life, spending the next 15-20 years in prison doesn’t seem like such a bad idea.

If the dog can't catch the bad guy, doesn't matter what kind of commitment to the bite. Gotta catch em before they can bite em. The malinios jumping through the busted car window did a fine job apprehending the bad guy and he didn't look like a hairy, short legged bull dog.

Commitment to the bite and increase of pressure during the fight isn't a rare ability in my opinion.
