My sister called the other day raving about her latest discovery -- alkaline water. She says she is feeling so much better since she started drinking alkalne water she is spending $1000 for some sort of ionizing water filter off ebay.

Has anyone else tried alkaline water? I did a search and found that many think it's a scam.

If I remember correctly back in the 1930's a physician had the hypothesis that those with more acidity to their blood had higher rates of cancer and those with more alkalinity had less. I think he was awarded the Noble prize for this.

It is commonly known that mild acidosis does have negative health consequences for those with certain serious acute or chronic health issues. Bicarbonate is Rx'd by physicians to treat this.  I know that water ionizers are sold in Asia for big bucks and claimed to provide health.  But I don't know if these claims are true or not.  I do know that some physicians have been told by dieticians and nutritionists that eating certain foods can increase alkalinity in one's system so that must be helpful to certain diagnoses.

arm & hammer baking soda contains aluminum as a non-clumping agent.  bob's red mill soda does not contain aluminum.  you can make cheap alkaline water with soda.  just don't use one with aluminum.  bob's red mill is available on both amazon and e-bay if your local grocery doesn't carry it.

Thanks Preston and pjp. I'm having fun doing more "research." Basically anything that tastes good is bad for you lol

I was doing some research last week on Arm and Hammer and the company states that it does NOT have aluminum in its baking soda. They just dont stamp the box as Bob does.

While doing that research, I also read that distilled water is more acid then other water. News to me since I have been drinking it for years. I drink too much water to pay for a $1000 filter. I stay away from tap water and try and drink filtered water. So much more goes into keeping your body at the right ph that only drinking water isnt going to work. Basically you have to become a vegan to really be ph healthy. Sorry I'm not giving up my acid snacks.
