I have an older female (11 yrs) who eats dirt. Not occasionally but almost constantly. She will do her business then sniff around and start licking the ground. She will start up again as soon as my back is turned, no matter how many times I correct her. I can't imagine that it is a nutritional deficiency since she is on Dog Lover's Gold and Mrs. Allen's Shed Stop. Awhile back someone had posted comments about Forco, a supplement containing digestive enzymes and beneficial bacteria. I can't find the post and would be very interested in hearing any thoughts from those who have used it or a similar product. I was wondering if the Forco would put a halt to this behavior? Is it a nutritional deficiency, a learned behavior, an obsessive/compulsive behavior? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I find it from time to time, no real answer, does not occur all the time. All you can do is correct it when you catch it.

esophageal dysphagia or dietary deficiency are suspects. nutrition needs can change as they age I wouldn't correct her for being sick if she is. Put her on a leash for a while to keep her out of the dirt
