This is a type of spay. Seems it is done in England a lot. English vets receive more training than our vets here in the states.

Those who have had it done what is your opinion?

Those who did not like it, please tell why.

Thank you.

Search the forum. It's been discussed. I did it on my own oldest female.

I've not had it done (no female dogs here), but my regular vet does them for the same price as a normal spay, under $200 here.

I don't understand why the OP thinks ovary-sparing
spays are such an 'English' thing ? All the web info
I found on OSS is American generated; although there
are some enquiries from Brits seeking info on UK vets
prepared to do it. It is quite a while since I last took
a female for neutering, but I was never offered this
'partial hysterectomy' (though I'm aware it has long
been an option with human sterilisation).  In fact, it is

perhaps more common for them to do it the other way

around - to take away the ovaries but leave the uterus

in situ.  Though I always think that is risky, because of pyo.

Have no idea what proportion of surgeries that accounts

for.

OSS makes good sense for some dog owners, no doubt.
In the same way that vasectomy rather than castration
is increasingly an available alternative for male dogs.
It can only be a good thing if the skills of all vets are
extended, and if canine, or all animal, medicine grows
alongside 'people' meds & surgery. At the moment
there is too much duplication, in research and in experi-
mental practice (particularly for instance in prosthetics).
Sorry, can't therefore help re current costs over here.
