I suggest you put the word out through responsible breeders that if such an accident occured, you would give the puppy a good home. Some breeders would give you a puppy like that for next to nothing (likely without papers) I would absolutely NOT recommend you seek out breeders who produce said colors deliberately.

I absolutely agree with you about people purposely breeding for this color due to it being a mutated gene. The one we had was out of strong working lines and he was going to be culled.I took him and he was one of those dogs that turned out to be very special. Some health problems though, but not to the extent that it hindered his quality of life.My wife just loved him and we are now ready to get another GSD and she ask if I could search for that looked like Taz.

Red and liver are different, I don't think there's a "red liver"?  I've seen a liver puppy though unless you were familiar with the breed you probably would not even notice.  She cropped up in a litter out of two black and tans.  They do happen from time to time but so rare among good breeders NOT just breeding for off colors that it's probably not worth your trouble trying to find one, you'd probably be wait listed for years, assuming a breeder would even let you pick based on color.

I think I know what the OP is talking about. I have seen a red liver. I have only seen the one, but I still think it is one of the most beautiful gsds I have ever seen. The dog was nearly an "Irish Setter" red all over, as opposed to the usual dull brownish-gray color associated with the term "liver" in gsds. Technically, it was a liver.

You're right, I was thinking of blue and not the red liver.  The off colored GSD I saw was black and tan except the black pigment was not black, it was grayish blue.  The dog wasn't really red at all (Am lines I believe, so they aren't usually red anyway).

The OP is looking for one like this?

I wouldn't own one of this color but it sure is pretty, as well as is the blues, and whites.....

Regardless of their color, they are still GSDs....JMO
